fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 Lol no. If they're hiring someone it's probably going to be a first time manager. If they're going to move on from Gibbons and remain semi-competitive (to retool and get younger) then he's probably going to give a shot to a new manager, Shapiro during his tenure only hired Acta and Francona as managers with past managing experience. If I had to guess maybe Sandy Alomar Jr. or DeMarlo Hale if he wants to stay internal (don't know much about his philosophy).

In soccer when the front office give a vote of confidence it usually translates to "you have a week to clear your desk" lol
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 Could Lovullo become a candidate in Toronto if the Blue Jays change managers? Team president Mark Shapiro brought in Eric Wedge to the front office as a possible manager-in-waiting. He’s also fond of Bud Black and Lovullo, who coached in Toronto under John Farrell and worked in Shapiro’s farm system in Cleveland. So that's the exact quote from Cafardo. There's no real substance to it. Purely speculative. No source or anything. Just three names he figure are in the mix for their Cleveland connections. They aren't bad guesses but he has no real insight into the front offices' thinking.

I never knew that
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 I like Bud Black or Dave Martinez.

flafson Verified Member Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 In soccer when the front office give a vote of confidence it usually translates to "you have a week to clear your desk" lol Yea, that's true in the BPL. But it really depends on the club, usually the crazy ones do that where the sane ones just say "no comment" or "he's under contract until the end of this season".
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 Louvollo's still in the mix for the Boston job if Farrell gets fired if the Sox are bounced early and/or they fall into the wild card and lose the WC game..

baubau Verified Member Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 Isn't Bud Black known for his bullpen management? If so, would be a great choice over Gibby regardless of this team's season outcome.

admin Site Manager Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 How has Ausmus been with the Tigers? I remember at the time he was a fan of advanced stats and a lot of people wanted him here. Unless we go deep in the playoffs I don't think there's any way Gibbons is back here. I've said it a few times, but even with a fairly good record, I think Atkins and company are smart enough to see the numerous idiotic mistakes Gibbons has made.

He's one of the worst managers in baseball.

I saw a couple of articles not too long ago talking about Ausmus and from what I read there and in the comments the people seem indifferent about him but say he's better than Leyland lol. Then again I saw one of the articles talk about how he's using Justin Wilson and Shane Green a lot in leverage situations as a negative... but if you head over to Fangraphs they're the top 2 relievers on the Tigers so I think the articles that I see are from the Blairs and Wilners of the Tigers
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 Just hire a puppet like Kevin Cash pls
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 Just hire a puppet like Kevin Cash pls A guy like Dave Robert's would be nice. A saber-metric driven manager who makes the best possible decisions using numbers instead of his gut would be great.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 So... a puppet. Similar to Kevin Cash.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 how about an actual puppet powered by a computer? Get the japanese on it right now.

Well, he consistently gives Jose Iglesias more PA than JD Martinez, Miguel Cabrera, and V-Mart.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 I would love to see Dave Martinez given a chance but I don't think he'll get one any time soon. Also don't really think Gibbons is going anywhere.
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
