Jose Bautista placed on 15-day DL with a left knee sprain. OF Junior Lake recalled

They must feel Jose will only need the 14 days, or Carrera will be back in a few days or something. Only possible way that it would make some sense not to call Pompey up right now.

Hes had 2 freak injuries. I would cut the guy some slack.

That's true

But it's reason enough to avoid playing him in the OF anymore

101 baseball

2 weeks DL = 2 months DL

These aren't freak injuries dude. Martin falling "in the shower" is a freak injury.

Those come with getting old.

In fairness, I'm not seeing how age is the primary factor in Jose smashing his foot on the OF wall in an unfamiliar park and then twisting his knee when a cleat gets caught in the Rogers Centre rug. He's no use in the OF anymore but these two injuries aren't reserved for old guys.

Anyone else just feel awkward when the Jose throwing from the OF commercial comes on? Rings so hollow with the season he's having.

This is the sound of Jose's contract demands going down. Nightmare season for Jose in his contract year. Jays might end up getting a deal on Jose.

gives me the heeby jeebies. Just so off base.

In the last 2 seasons Bautista has injured himself playing the outfield 3 seperate times. All injuries to different body parts. (Shoulder, Foot, Knee)

I think it's safe to say Bautista is officially a DH.

It's really a stupid commercial. Why not create something around the bat flip? You know something relevant to recent history not a fading skill that he hasn't really flashed since the infamous throw to 1B.

Ya know Id cut him some slack for this without his demands and performance to start spring training. His demands were so outrageous that they had to be predicated on the basis that he felt some how some way (yoga etc) he would be in the OF and productive on a daily basis. All these injuries do is highlight the risk associated with a long term deal with someone who is aging and whose production has been already in decline from his 8 and 6 WAR seasons for some time.

I see what you're saying but I think it's based on the fact he isn't worth how much he was demanding as the older he gets the less he will be able to play the OF.

No, my comment is based on the fact that some posters who are saying these are primarily age-related injuries. Stroman basically died last year twisting his knee while fielding a bunt.

I'd argue that his performance this year is the big red flag against signing him long-term for big money. These specific injuries are just weird accidents and could happen to any fielder though. (The throwing arm problem is legit, though.)

He really looked like a DH playing right field.

They should give Pompey a chance to start, it's gonna be a dog fight to the playoffs and Pompey has the best fest chance at being an impact player going forward

What a disasterous year for jose

Jose must be s***ing himself over all the money he's lost this season. I wonder if he'd take a one year deal with the Jays to re-establish his value?
