Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 I'm skeptical... Third Baseman have a really tough time making the Hall. As corner infielders, they get lumped in with the other offensive positions and the bar tends to get set higher than it should be considering their defensive value. At 300 homeruns and 2000 hits, he's well short of the offensive threshold that would guarantee entry. For him to get in, the voting pool has to evolve to to be more in line with modern valuations. Obviously that's already happening to some extent but it's a slow process of turnover that's bound to be somewhat behind on the times. From wikipedia: became the third third baseman ever to have 2,000 hits, 500 doubles, 300 home runs, and 1,200 RBIs, along with George Brett and Chipper Jones. Hopefully that'll be sexy enough to geezer voters.

I don't personally give at rat's ass about the HOF but it means a lot the players and it sucks for the deserving players that don't get in. One thing that I forgot to mention is that I think Rolen might be perceived negatively by the press. The way he lifted his nose at the Phillies was very controversial at the time and was bad for his reputation and from what I understand he didn't leave the Cards on the best of terms. Dude played hard on the field and that's all that should matter but I feel like there's a bit of career drama that might play against him. I don't get the impression that there's a groundswell of support for him outside of the nerd set. I think what GP said is fair.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 Needing 6 more excellent seasons is extremely difficult. That wasn't his point at all though. He's saying that EVEN if he did, he might not get in. He can't really be considered as having much more that an outside chance at the hall right now. He needs a lot to go right.

No. He'd have to have completely dominated for those 12 years.... And while he was a very good hitter, he wasn't one of the 2-3 best in the game. Papi types stats, but not close to having the longevity required.

wamco Verified Member Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 rolen was an excellent 2 way player that I could see getting in eventually when bins and Clemens aren't still getting votes. Larkin got in way easier than I thought . But rolen could get clumped in with the Bernie Williams Jim Edmonds for reasons king stated accurately

wamco Verified Member Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 Rumor I heard was avasil Garcia was traded from det after fielder found out Garcia was with fielders wife and muggy went after him in the clubhouse, injuring himself in the scuffle. I just googled prince fielder, avasil Garcia and the rumor is still out there
