Walking away from all that money I guess?

He looks done this year. I never liked his personality, but it's always sad to see one of the all-time greats leave the game. I'll be watching on Friday.

Sounds pretty stupid to walk away from all that money.

He's staying as a special advisor so maybe they're gonna continue to pay him but rather him not play lol

Shame he wouldn't stay until he hits 4 more. He'd be able to by the middle of September

Yeah, this year looks weird, last year he hit 33 home runs. I thought he would have played out the season but this sounds like the organization kind of asked him to move on.

I mean it makes sense to buy him out and get him away from the organization. But to keep him on a as special adviser or something lol. That's baffling. If I'm him I'm letting the Yankees pay the rest of my contract and signing with any team that will have me at the minimum to hit four more homeruns.

This makes zero sense from both sides. Only good thing for the Yankees is clearing a roster spot.

It's always funny seeing people who almost think he deserves the death penalty or something

Funny think is didn't the MLB still fail to provide true evidence other than documents that be doped? They seem to be ok with the league cheating but not A-Rod -- who before the "steroids" (like Bonds) was on his way to a HOF anyways

Walking away from $21 Million for his last year of his 10 year contract.

Hes not walking away. Hes getting released.

According to fox Arod is getting the full $$ of his contract. Pretty sure he asked around the league and no one wanted him even at league minimum

He is going home after Friday's final game, then starting his mentoring job in spring training so he gets to kick it for 6 months in Miami haha.

He's made 400+ million in salary, not.including endorsements. He's still worth 325+ million. Even if he were walking away from it, which he isn't, how exactly would it be "stupid" to walk away from money he doesn't need at all?

You can never have enough money, or so I've heard.

Even if you are worth $325 million +, you wouldn't be stupid enough to throw out $21 million. Doesn't matter how rich you are. You are the one who seems stupid.

Does that mean the Yankees are on the hook for that $21 million?

Apparently so

Ouch

Like it was said above it just clears a roster spot

I thought Miami would have taken a chance on him as a pinch hitter, backup 1B since he's from that area, and would be close to that milestone of 700 home runs. Seemed like a good fit.

Don't want to call maahfaace stupid. This ^. Business is business and they are releasing him no? NYY signed the deal with all of its terms and that's that. I see no need for A-Rod,like him or not, to give charity to the NYY. Give it to a fight cancer or something else worthy IF he wishes to part with the $.

Yankees really aren't playing for anything this season, and it's not like A-Rod was taking AB's away from anyone. Start him 2-3 times a week at DH, and see if he reaches that 700 HR Milestone. Yankees could have made money from him chasing that milestone, in terms of ticket sales, merchandise etc.

Depends what kind of person your are, lots of athlete's walk away from money. If you're a greed driven douchebag then from that perspective it would seem stupid I guess.
