I don't get paid the time and a half plus get the time off in lieu, I keep my regular 40 hour a week pay let's say and then I bank 12 hours 8 x 1.5 (time and a half) and use that for a future day off.

 

Also pro tip for travelers, use AirBnb it will save you so much vs hotels.

been searching for a good price for a month. flying through China with a hotel stay on both trips with 4 weeks in Bali. mid November to mid December when it's grey, wet and s***** in Sweden.

some of the laws in North America are archaic and need to be changed. why are people working with the rating from the 50s when modern workers do more before lunch on Tuesday than most people in the 50's did all week.

 

Modern machinery has made jobs easier but also made them faster. People are not machines and when you push them to far they break. The cost of paying for broken people is greater than the cost of paying for proper vacation long term.

Places like Thailand or Bali it's just as cheap to live in a hotel unless you pay for a month. you can rent a house with a pool for a month for about $1000 CAD. If you are a couple people that's really not bad.

 

I've used AirBNB in Singapore and Rome and saved a lot. My daughter and her husband do trips with friends and they rent a house or large apt with friends through AirBNB

it's hard to save money on lodging in countries where it's already dirt cheap. lol expensive cities have big savings to be made.

 

stayed two places last time. first was 4 star for 45 a night and second was 5 star on the beach for 80 a night. split in two it's cheap.

For sure, right now I don't value days off and I find ways constantly to go out or spend time with family so I'm trying to maximize the hours of work I have. I will eventually have more priorities in life that will need that one or two days off and I'll be in a position to be ok with taking them off
