Well, I definitely think Japan will be more prepared than Brazil, so at least it's unlikely that the bullpen will be built on top of an active landfill...

The big question will be if MLB players are eligible

Given NBA and NHL players are I presume they will allow? Ry

There's no way we see MLB players at the Olympics. It's a shame, but there's really no incentive for the MLB to let players go when they already run the WBC.

They won't. And NHL wants to stop sending players to the olympics.

Hockey world cup + NHL + Olympics works somehow

We could still see top prospects. It would still be good Baseball. But no MLB will never stop there season for a tournament on the other side of the world.

I'm guessing with the games being in Japan was a big reason to add baseball again to the Olympics. Not sure you'll see MLB players go over, maybe some minor leaguers I'd assume. Should be fun though.

All leagues except MLB have agreed to an Olympic break in the schedule according to what I've read.

That's what the NHL wants. But its not going to happen because the players want to play in the Olympics. NHL should have never allowed it to start.

Maybe. But from a business point of view the MLB is going to be resistant to having their assets go generate revenue for the IOC for no reward. I'd imagine a lot of hesitation from teams too.

Well the NBA doesn't factor because the Olympics are held in the summer and not during the season.

I suppose. The owners will play hardball I'm sure. They don't want a 2 week gap in the 2020 season and risk superstars getting injured.

Thing is it would be tough to do a 1-2 week break in the middle of August, which would likely push the regular season into the middle of October and the World Series until the middle of November. If the All-Star Break coincided with the Olympic break, then sure wouldn't be that bad, though that won't happen.

All professional baseball leagues.

I think its a complete nonstarter actually. There is nothing in the Olympics for the owners or the PA.

Not only a scheduling issue. Owners won't wan't these guys risking injury while under guaranteed contracts.

Considering the opurtunity and the level of competition they will see especially against the likes of Japan, Cuba, and South Korea who would stop there respective leagues for the Olympics. Teams would be thrilled to send prospects over. As long as they're monitored and not abused. Its in the middle of the minor league season. Its not like you would be extending their season.

Canada has had a lot of success in the Pan Am Games. They would certainly be competitive with more and more talent piping through.

Nor is there much hunger among players. They don't get paid and there isn't much interest in the "representing your country" aspect. Even in the NBA where there's a rich history of players participating the Olympics a lot of the stars are not showing much interest anymore.

Well thats the thing as well. If you're making a push for the postseason or have a ton of money invested in a certain player or pitcher, owners wouldn't want their star players getting injured during the Olympics.

Pitcher injuries play a huge factor in MLB never allowing its players to play in the Olympics.

Yeah I can't see the Rangers being too keen on Darvish pitching at this for example, as much as team Japan would love for him to
