jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 San Diego Padres 43-57 vs. Toronto Blue Jays 56-44 Pitching Matchup: SD: Cashner (4-7 , 4.79 ERA) vs. TOR: Stroman (8-4 , 4.90 ERA) Andrew Cashner's name has been recently mentioned in trade rumors regarding the Blue Jays, but he'll look to go out and beat them on Tuesday evening at Rogers Centre. Cashner will match up against fellow right-hander Marcus Stroman in the second game of San Diego's three-game series in Toronto. The 29-year-old Cashner is a free agent at the end of the season, and he is reportedly on the Blue Jays' radar as either a depth piece at the back of the rotation or as a hard-throwing bullpen arm. Despite an inconsistent season to date, Cashner is coming off back-to-back strong starts over which he's allowed two earned runs in 11 2/3 innings while striking out 17. "What good is worrying about it going to do?" Cashner said after tossing 5 2/3 innings against the Cardinals his last time out. "I know I'm going to be traded. It's just part of the game, part of where the season's at." Stroman will look to replicate his recent performance. The 25-year-old Duke product held the D-backs to one run on eight hits over eight innings his last time out. While Stroman has had his fair share of struggles this season, a couple of slight mechanical changes have helped his performance of late. Stroman has allowed two runs or fewer in three of his past four starts. "I feel great, I feel great," Stroman said after his last outing. "I would never lie to you. I feel great, and it's just a matter of locking in, commanding and competing out there every five [days]." Padres Lineup: CF T. Jankowski 1B W. Myers RF M. Kemp 3B Y. Solarte LF A. Dickerson 2B R. Schimpf SS A. Ramírez DH B. Wallace C D. Norris Blue Jays Lineup: RF Jose Bautista ® 3B Josh Donaldson ® DH E. Encarnacion ® LF M. Saunders (L) SS Troy Tulowitzki ® C Russell Martin ® CF Kevin Pillar ® 1B Justin Smoak (S) 2B Devon Travis ® Game Notes: • San Diego and Toronto have reportedly already made one deal, as MLB Network contributor Ken Rosenthal broke early Tuesday morning that outfielder Melvin Upton Jr. will be joining the Blue Jays. Despite being healthy, Upton Jr. received consecutive days off on Sunday and Monday. Upton Jr. does have prior experience in the American League East, having spent the first eight years of his Major League career with the Rays. • After missing 30 games due to turf toe on his left big toe, Jose Bautista returned to the Blue Jays' lineup on Monday and finished 1-for-3 with a walk. The 35-year-old was placed in his regular spot atop the batting order and played right field, but he is expected to see time at DH as well. • The Padres extended their franchise-best streak of hitting a home run to 23 games on Monday thanks to a two-run home run by Alex Dickerson in the ninth inning. San Diego became the first National League team since the 2006 Braves to hit a home run in 23 straight games. http://gifrific.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/You-Stay-Classy-San-Diego-Anchorman.gif

Effit Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Zaun knows what's up. "If it were up to me, Upton would be playing RF every single day."
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 (edited) If they want to platoon Melvin fine. But you need to get him in tonight. He hasn't played inawhile. Edited July 26, 2016 by Jonn

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Zaun knows what's up. "If it were up to me, Upton would be playing RF every single day." Funny, considering Zaun was saying last night that Upton has no place on this team. What a hypocrite
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Gibbons doesn't want to play with his new toy Hes a pussy. I bet he won't even use both Zeke and Upton as defensive replacements tonight because he's scared of Bautista's response.

Cyborg Verified Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Sounds like Smoak still in there against righties thankfully. I like Upton's role of platoon and bench bat/pinch runner.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Hes a pussy. I bet he won't even use both Zeke and Upton as defensive replacements tonight because he's scared of Bautista's response. Bautista is trying to establish himself as an everyday right fielder to end out his final contract year and Gibby knows it. Gibby is a "player's manager" and unfortunately for the better of the team, he probably won't pull Bautista for defense unless the game isn't that close. He will however replace Saunders with the excuse that he's doing it to protect him from injury, thus getting f***ed for some serious money in the off season. Yeah, Bautista has an upper hand on Gibby and it's pretty obvious.
Inklink Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 FAAAK we probably have to sit through another 3 strikeout game for Smoak.

Yeah, Bautista has an upper hand on Gibby and it's pretty obvious. If I'm any other team I'm viewing him as 1B and DH moving forward. I don't think any team wants him in the outfield unless they completely ignore advanced stats that show hes a very bad Outfielder. He does however profile nicely at First Base. We haven't got to see him play the position a lot but he shouldn't have any issue making all the plays and infield throws from his vast infield experience. His arm plays better in the infield at this point in his career. I would love to see him take reps everyday. Begin that transition and give him every opurtunity. Hes still athletic he just sucks defensively its not like he can't move latterly hes in tremendous shape. Chasing/Judging fly balls is his issue and a declining throwing arm. He doesn't have the speed to bail out his terrible routes.
West Texas Forever Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 This Jays central just got awkward.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 At the game. I think Cashner just got started in his warmup. If he walks to the Blue Jays dugout in between innings I'll let you guys know.
