I have to wonder what the consensus is as to who the more useful 25th man is at this point:. Zeke or Goins? I suspect come playoff time it'll be Pompey, but for now, who do you take assuming it's one of the two?

Zeke. Goins is not useful at all with how the current roster is constructed.

The only benefit Goins provides this team now is his ability to play all infield positions and maybe LF. I can't see Goins playing the infield at all in the playoffs (if he does, we got a major injury), so I'd rather have Carrera.

So people are whining before the details are announced? The range of possible costs goes from like top prospect + 20M to shitbag minor league depth + 5M.

Zeke. Goins is useless with Barney here. Zeke still provides speed. And can hit a little but compared to Goins. Pompey will likely be the 25th man on a playoff roster for pinch running purposes like last year. He gave us an excellent chance to win Game 6 of the ALCS before the bed s***.

I sincerely hope this gets Goins off my TV for good.

you can't just dump 1.1 war Carrera. Yeah he was sucking up lately but that's because he was exposed and playing everyday.

what about..........regression?

Unfortunately you will still see him in September. He will be a cheerleader though.

Lineup: Bautista, Donaldson, EE, Saunders, Tulo, Martin, Travis, Pillar, Upton

Bench: Zeke, Smoak, Barney, Thole

Guaranteed its not him. I'd vomit all over my boss at work today if that was the case.

A little bit of me wants it to be Vladdy just so this'll happen.

This guy used to absolutely destroy us back in the day.

What are his career splits at the Rogers Centre? I'm sure Shartkins looked at that in making the trade.

55 Games, .277/.354/.437, 6 HRs

I highly doubt that.

From Fangraphs:

In the past year, Upton has clocked in with a 36% hard-hit rate, matching Jay Bruce and Andrew McCutchen.

Also a .913 OPS against lefties will be good to platoon with Saunders.

Edit: Saunders is mashing lefties this year

Solid upgrade over Smoak and insurance for our hobbled corner mashers. Not the sexiest move, but I'm cautiously optimistic that the value is there.

Absolutely wrong. It's a significant sample size and they will explore every avenue before making a trade, including whether or not the player is comfortable hitting in our home park.

Whether they put huge significance on it is up for debate. We don't know how the front office weighs fickle things like clubhouse presence, comfort, playoff performance, etc.

If the blue jays had payroll flexibility I still don't understand why they didn't sign a free agent reliever this offseason like Clippard.

What? Have you seen Clippard? ERA and xFIP 4+ and he's owed 12m over 2 years

Barry Davis speculates that this trade spells the end of Carrera with the Jays.

Why we have an 8 man pen, just option Tepera and roll with a normal 4 man bench

Hey I have a good question for you guys. we all keep talking about Bautista to DH and Upton to the OF.... Why not put Saunders as a DH instead? Saunders looks so fragile when he chases balls down and tbh he's below average as a fielder. I think Bautista stays in the OF and Saunders DHs

This move makes a lot of sense considering Bau and Saunders are not very good fielders and have had some hobbled years to say the least. Upgrade in the lineup as well... Considering the Pads are eating a lot of the contract I am going to be fairly optimistic about this.

Well I think Both get DH starts but yes I agree with you that it's hardly a foregone conclusion that Bautista would get more DH starts than Saunders. Like you I expect the opposite.

I imagine they will rotate who DHs between the 2 of them. Keep both their legs fresh.
