I wondered why he didn't pitch two innings yesterday; this explains it. Probably best - he will get his full MLB salary and can spend some time rehabbing to practice his swing.

 

I am surprised that it is listed as a strain since he pitched for the entire inning before coming out. A strain seems to indicate some muscle damage.

Hutch has not been named as the Sunday Starter for Buffalo. Call up Venditte or one of the other arms today and send him down for a Hutch reliever run until the All Star Break?

I wonder what Goins thinks of this poor guy gets called on to throw in a tied game and is out with an injury. Now we can call Hutch and a reliever + send down Shultz until the All-Star game and see what we will shuffle back

He's not. He's an awful hitter. He's a perfectly fine runner. An excellent defensive player. A very versatile player (even more so after yesterday). And from all accounts, a very good teammate.

He's horrendous offensively and a below average runner with above average D. He's a bench piece but is ideal AAA depth.

He must feel pretty horrible right now having been asked to pitch and getting injured subsequently

I was impressed with Goins' pitching; he threw curves, chaneups and fastballs (one was at 90 mph). He induced three weak ground balls, one which got through the infield, and one solid hit to the outfield.

 

Initially I thought that maybe this was a phony injury in order to bring another pitcher up from AAA, but looking at the picture below, it looks like he put quite a bit of strain on his arm for someone who doesn't pitch (it certainly isn't the way he normally throws a baseball in the infield).

 

Got to give Goins credit for giving it maximum effort.
