The Bisons bid for a 10-game win streak ended on Thursday, as the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders beat Buffalo 8-1. A combined seven RBI from Ike Davis and Aaron Judge resulted in the Herd's first loss since June 20.

Francisco Diaz singled against Buffalo starter Roberto Hernandez in the fifth inning for the RailRiders first hit. Donovan Solano then put Scranton/Wilkes-Barre up 1-0 with a RBI single. With the bases loaded three batters later, former Bison Ike Davis knocked a grand slam over the left-centerfield wall.

Another former Bison, Phil Coke, pitched two no-hit innings before allowing a double to Buffalo catcher Wilkin Castillo. Castillo appeared in his first game with the Bisons, after being promoted from Double-A New Hampshire on Wednesday. Coke limited the Herd to just the two hits through six innings of work, fanning five hitters, as his record improves to 4-2.

"Coke was the name of the game tonight," Bisons' manager Gary Allenson said postgame. "He mixed his pitches very well and used both sides of the plate. He threw the slider and the changeup, and we just couldn't figure it out."

Giovanny Gallegos entered in relief for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the seventh inning, and though the Bisons put runners on the corners, Gallegos escaped danger to keep the shutout intact.

Hernandez finished with 5.0, three hits allowed, while allowing five earned runs and issuing five walks.

"They didn't really hit him except for the grand slam, but he put himself in that situation, with five walks," Allenson said of his starter.

Pat Venditte came in for the sixth for the Herd, and stranded a Tyler Austin double in the seventh to keep the score 5-0. Aaron Judge drove home three runs with a bases loaded double off Colt Hynes in the top of the eighth, as Scranton/Wilkes-Barre pulled away with an 8-0 lead.

Andy Burns ended the shutout bid in the bottom of the eighth, knocking a solo home run for his fifth long ball of the season.

Ben Rowen worked a perfect ninth for Buffalo, while Kirby Yates shut the door in the ninth to seal the Bisons' defeat.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre prevents the Herd from reaching a modern era record 10-straight wins, a feat accomplished in both 2002 and 2004. The RailRiders also increase their lead over the Bisons in the IL North standings, as Buffalo battles Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, while fending off fellow contenders Rochester and Lehigh Valley for the division lead.

"There's still a ways to go," Allenson said. "We haven't played a game like this in quite a while. I can't remember the last time we had one of these games where we didn't hit and didn't pitch. Just forget about this one. We've been playing very well, and it's just one of those days."

John Anderson will get the ball in game two of the Herd's four-game series against the RailRiders on Friday. Diego Moreno is scheduled to start for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, with first pitch set for 7:05 from Coca-Cola Field.

BISONS NOTES:

Brett Cecil's rehab with the Bisons ended on Thursday, as the left-handed reliever was activated to the Blue Jays. Ryan Tepera rejoins the Herd from his latest stint with Toronto. Fellow reliever Chad Jenkins was also released from the Blue Jays' organization… Jesus Montero reached base twice, but came away hitless, snapping his hitting streak at eight games… Ike Davis' grand slam is the first by a Bisons' opponent since last May 26, when Gorkys Hernandez cleared the bases against Buffalo for the Indianapolis Indians.

BINGHAMTON, NY - Behind a brilliant start from Casey Lawrence, the Fisher Cats (34-44) took down the Binghamton Mets (33-44) and moved into fourth place in the Eastern League's Eastern Division with a 4-2 win on Thursday night at NYSEG Stadium.

In perhaps New Hampshire's best start of the season, Lawrence (W, 3-6) held the B-Mets to one run on three hits with no walks and six strikeouts. He allowed a pair of singles through the first six innings before surrendering a base hit and an RBI double in the seventh.

One night after scoring a season-high 14 runs, the Fisher Cats offense provided just enough run support on Thursday. With six extra-base hits, including two doubles each from Jason Leblebijian and Christian Lopes, New Hampshire opened a 4-0 lead by the seventh inning stretch.

The first three batters of the game produced hits against Binghamton starter Casey Delgado (L, 4-4). Lopes doubled to left center, Roemon Fields put runners on the corners with a bunt single and Ryan Lavarnway put the Fisher Cats in front 1-0 with an RBI base hit to center.

Leblebijian's first double came in the fourth, and plated Rowdy Tellez from first base to make it a 2-0 lead. His second double came with two outs in the sixth, and he was driven home by Derrick Loveless, who tripled to right field on the next pitch.

The Fisher Cats made it 4-0 in the top of the seventh. Shane Opitz doubled to left center, moved to third on a groundout, and scored on a fielder's choice from Fields.

Dominic Smith got Binghamton on the board with an RBI double in the bottom half of the seventh, and the Mets nearly broke through against Murphy Smith (S, 3) in the ninth. With two singles to lead off the inning, Binghamton had runners on the corners with nobody out. After a 12-pitch at bat, Smith induced a 6-4-3 double play off the bat of Jayce Boyd, plating a run but ending the rally.

With doubleheaders scheduled for Friday and Saturday at 5:35 p.m., the Fisher Cats and B-Mets are scheduled to play five more times before the end of the weekend.

The Fisher Cats will return home on Monday, July 4 to begin a four-game series with the Portland Sea Dogs. Each game will be followed by an Atlas Fireworks Show, including a Mega-Blast Atlas Fireworks Spectacular on the Fourth of July.

The top two prospects in the Red Sox organization, Yoan Moncada and Andrew Benintendi, are currently on Portland's roster.

CLEARWATER, Fla. - Jiandido Tromp rocketed his first home run at the High-A level on Thursday, but the Clearwater Threshers were outslugged by the Dunedin Blue Jays in the series finale, 8-4 at Bright House Field.

Clearwater (4-4) tallied 11 hits, but could not overcome an early 6-0 deficit in suffering the series sweep. The Threshers have dropped four consecutive games for the first time this season.

Tromp crushed the ball three times and had a pair of hits to show for it, finishing 2-for-4 with a homer and a double. He rocketed a shot off the left-center field wall for the two-base hit in the second inning, before unloading on the first offering from Justin Shafer in the fifth.

The 22-year-old outfielder lashed a solo shot into Frechy's Tiki Hut for his first longball in a Threshers uniform. Tromp tallied ten home runs in the first half for the Lakewood Blue Claws.

Luke Leftwich (1-1) started strong on Thursday, but was saddled with the loss in his home debut.

Leftwich struck out the first two men he faced, and hurled 17-consecutive strikes in one span between the first and second innings. A two-out walk in the second opened the door for Dunedin, as Michael De La Cruz followed with a sinking liner into right that got past a diving Herlis Rodriguez for a triple, plating the game's first run.

Dunedin (7-1) totaled six runs on eight hits and a pair of walks off Leftwich, who struck out six. He threw 63 of his 95 pitches for strikes.

Shafer (1-4) worked around baserunners in the first four innings before Tromp's bomb got Clearwater on the board in the fifth.

Down 7-1, the Threshers climbed back into it in the sixth inning.

Scott Kingery got it going with a one-out single up the middle, and Kyle Martin followed with a base hit through the right side. Zach Green worked a walk to load the bases.

Mitch Walding pulled a hard grounder toward the hole on the right side, which LB Dantzler came up with on a dive but fired wildly to second. Walding was credited with a single, allowing Kingery to cross, and the error on Dantzler pushed home Martin and moved Green and Walding into scoring position.

Chace Numata followed with a grounder to second, plating Green to cut the deficit to three.

Colton Turner shut it down the rest of the way for Dunedin, striking out five of the six men he faced to earn his second save. Ryan McBroom homered in the ninth inning, his 11th of the year, to account for the game's final run.

Clearwater will look to turn the page on Friday, as the Threshers kick off their Independence Day weekend celebrations with Free-Shirt Friday and a post-game concert by the Greg Billings Band.

The Threshers send Ranfi Casimiro (6-5) to the mound in the opener against the Brevard County Manatees with first pitch at 6:15 p.m., and the game can be heard live on the Threshers Broadcast Nework beginning at 6 p.m.

MIDLAND, Mich. - Trailing 7-2 entering the ninth inning, the Lansing Lugnuts (6-2, 42-36) scored four runs and had the bases loaded for more before falling in defeat to the Great Lakes Loons (4-4, 33-45), 7-6, on Thursday night at Dow Diamond.

The Lugnuts split the four-game series at Great Lakes, the first leg of Lansing's seven-game road trip.

The early-going was dominated by Great Lakes' power: Logan Landon homered twice, Ariel Sandoval belted a 421-foot home run of his own, and the Loons added three more runs in a fourth-inning rally to grab a 6-0 lead against Lansing starter Tayler Saucedo (Loss, 3-7).

Shut down by Michael Boyle (Win, 5-5) through the first six innings, the Lugnuts crept within 6-2 on a pair of sacrifice flies against reliever Angel German in the seventh.

An Ariel Sandoval RBI single in the eighth off Daniel Young added insurance for Great Lakes - insurance that the Loons would need in a major way.

With one out, singles by J.C. Cardenas, Andrew Guillotte and John La Prise loaded the bases against right-hander Ivan Vieitez. Juan Kelly singled in both Cardenas and Guillotte, and La Prise dashed home as well on a poor throw by right fielder Darien Tubbs, cutting the score to 7-5.

Following a walk to Connor Panas, the Loons turned to Brian Bass (Save, 5). After retiring pinch-hitter Jake Thomas on a foulout to third for the second out, Bass lost his command. He hit Ryan Metzler and Ryan Hissey with consecutive pitches, forcing home Lansing's sixth run.

But with the tying run and go-ahead runs in scoring position, Bass broke Juan Tejada's bat on a comebacker, tossing to first base to end the rally and the game.

In the loss, Panas drew a pair of walks to extend his on-base streak to 18 consecutive games; La Prise went 3-for-5 with three singles; Hissey reached base four times on two singles, a walk and a HBP; and Metzler drew three walks.

Lansing opens a three-game series at South Bend at 7:35 p.m. Friday, starting right-hander Jon Harris (6-1, 2.59) against Cubs right-hander Casey Bloomquist (5-3, 2.26).
