Both the Bisons and the Bats had nine hits Monday night at Coca-Cola Field, but it was Louisville who batted in bunches and came away with the 4-1 victory.

Coming in with a .391 average in the month of June, Scott Schebler went 4-for-4 and scored twice for the Bats. Steve Selsky provided the power for Louisville by driving in three runs, two of which came on a moonshot home run that cleared the 60-foot high protective netting that hangs well beyond the left-field wall.

Even though he pitched a season-best 7.2 innings, Roberto Hernandez took the loss to even his record at 3-3. The 35-year-old allowed four runs on eight hits while striking out three batters.

"I thought he did a great job. He took us into the eighth inning and that was the biggest plus about that. Our bullpen's been worn out with the day-night doubleheader and the two extra-inning games," said manager Gary Allenson.

"He kept us in the game and gave us a chance to come back but we didn't do it."

The Bisons tied the game at one's in the fourth inning when Matt Dominguez led off the frame with a single to right field. The third baseman moved up a bag on a hit by Casey Kotchman and came around to score on A.J. Jimenez's 12th double of the campaign.

"I'm trying to keep it simple. Just see the ball, know the situation, and execute," said the catcher postgame.

It wasn't just the hit that impressed his manager, Jimenez also threw out Louisville's leadoff batter, Juan Perez, to end the fifth inning.

"What a throw that was," exclaimed Allenson, before expanding on Jimenez's play this year.

"He's real good back there. He's throwing the ball real ball and blocks outstanding. He's really good right now and eventually he's not going to be in this league anymore."

The Bats opened the scoring in the third on a solo shot by Jermaine Curtis. Selsky's third RBI of the night made it a 4-1 contest in the eighth, forcing Allenson to go to the bullpen.

Pat Venditte used a pair of punch outs to finish off the final inning and a third for the Herd.

Louisville's starter Jon Moscot improved to 3-3, allowing just the lone run over 6.2 innings. Jumbo Diaz gave up a hit and a walk in the ninth but hung on to pick up his 11th save.

BISONS NOTES:

Earlier in the day, Melky Mesa was called up from New Hampshire to replace Darrell Ceciliani who has been summoned to the Blue Jays. Mesa went 1-for-3 with a walk and added an outfield assist in the third inning…A.J. Jimenez tied the International League lead by catching his 15th runner of the season. His 34.9 per cent rate of throwing out runners is the third best in the IL...Junior Lake had three hits, the fourth time he has done so this year.

ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA - The New Hampshire Fisher Cats rode two fingers off the bat of catcher Ryan Lavarnway to victory on Monday night, beating the Erie SeaWolves 6-5 at Jerry Uht Park.

The Fisher Cats (30-39) snapped a four-game losing streak and managed to hang on in a one-run game, despite having led by as many as four runs Monday night. The SeaWolves (31-41) got the tying run on base in the ninth inning but couldn't get him around to score. Fisher Cats outfielder Dwight Smith, Jr. saw his career-best hitting streak come to an end after 16 games, going 0-4.

New Hampshire opened the scoring in the top of the first against Erie starter Josh Turley. Roemon Fields cracked a leadoff double to left, and Jason Leblebijian followed suit with one of his own to right to plate Fields. With one out, Lavarnway bashed a huge two-run homer to left field, putting New Hampshire ahead 3-0.

Erie got on the board in the bottom of the second, with Fisher Cats starter Taylor Cole on the hill. Corey Jones bounced one to Leblebijian at third that Leblebijian threw away, and came in on a one-out double by Kody Eaves, trimming New Hampshire's edge to 3-1.

The Fisher Cats got a pair in the top of the fourth inning. Rowdy Tellez and Matt Dean knocked consecutive singles to lead off the frame, and advanced to second and third on a wild pitch by Turley. Christian Lopes singled to center, scoring Tellez, and Dean came in on a sacrifice fly by Shane Opitz, putting the Fisher Cats in front 5-1.

Erie answered in the bottom of the frame, as Dominic Ficiociello singled and Eaves walked to begin the inning. Grayson Greiner singled home Ficociello, and Harold Castro doubled Eaves in, cutting the lead to 5-3.

New Hampshire added a critical insurance run in the top of the fifth. Lavarnway turned on a fastball from Turley and deposited it over the center field fence, with the solo blast giving New Hampshire the 6-3 edge. That homer would be crucial, as Erie got closer with a pair of solo homers in the sixth and seventh innings. The first was from Casey Frawley off Wil Browning, and Ficociello followed with his own in the seventh against John Stilson (W, 3-0). New Hampshire clung to the 6-5 lead, and Danny Barnes shut down the SeaWolves in the ninth to finish the victory.

Cole took a no-decision, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits and four walks over 4.2 innings while fanning five. Browning gave up a run on two hits in one inning, recording two strikeouts. Stilson gave up a run on only one hit in 2.1 innings of action while striking out two, and was credited with the win. Barnes recorded a shutout ninth to secure his first save.

The Fisher Cats will try to right the ship Monday night against the Erie SeaWolves, with righty Jeremy Gabryszwski starting for New Hampshire against Erie right-hander Cory Riordan . First pitch from Jerry Uht Park is at 7:05 p.m., and Ben Gellman has the call starting at 6:45 p.m. on the Fisher Cats Radio Network.

Kings 3 Stars of the Night

1) Ryan Lavarnway: Lavarnway went 2/3 with 2 home runs and a walk.

2) Rowdy Tellez: Tellez went 3/4 with 3 singles. Gotta bring dat avrdge up.

3) Justin Shafer: Shafer was solid albeit not "spectacular" going 6 innings with 4 strikeouts, 2 walks and 0 earned runs given up. He has an ERA of 8 in 60 career innings for Dunedin, so I would like to consider this start a smashing success.

Kings Platinum Arencibia

1) Matt Smoral: Smoral got rekt out of the bullpen in mop up duty. 1IP 1H 3ER 2BB 1K. A wild pitch and a hit by pitch. What a disaster.

A.J. Jimenez hitting in Baffalo. Hopefully our Backup catcher next year?

I always thought he would be a great backup because he was a good defensive catcher, but with all the injuries i don't know what he would be like now defensively. I can't see him hitting much in the majors.

If he can still play good defense and hit passably well (like .600 OPS), he'll be very valuable to us. He can take some workload off Martin and we won't be watching that useless Thole every 5th day.
