BTS Community Moderator Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 ??? Dickey = Dickey Estrada 2016 >>> Estrada 2015 (knock on wood) Happ = Buehlre Sanchez 2016 > Sanchez 2015 + Hutch Stroman 2016 > Stroman in a wheelchair + Dubront + other random hacks Price >>>> everyone but only made 11 starts The jury is out on that one and I lean towards 2016 rotation being better. It depends how you want to look at it. Pre-deadline 2016 rotation is worse. Post-deadline 2016 is basically this year's staff with Price replacing Sanchez.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 If we're talking about pre-deadline, then maybe. Last year's team was still like +75 or something at this point though. Projections for the post deadline 2015 team were ridiculous. The 2016 team has never been close to that. Losing Price + expected regression from all the 30+ year olds hurts. The issue with the 30+ year olds performance has been real. Conversely the BoSox HanRam, Pedroia and Papi 30+ group are having better overall starts than 2015...a year older.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 We have Stroman and Happ this year. Makes a difference. Not over Price it doesn't.
ChrisS Verified Member Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 How many years in the last 20 were they over 0.500 after 53 games and won less than 85 games? In the last 20 seasons by the end of the 53rd game they were .500 or better 11 times, only 5 of those times did they win 85 games or more.

Heh, on the topic of not commiting to old guys, the Sox are paying $50M to Hanley, Sandoval, and Craig this year. Cherington was a disaster.

thatoneguy Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 Last year's pen down the stretch was deep and very good. Cecil was unhittable, Osuna was dominant, and then you had Hendriks, Lowe, Sanchez, and Hawkins all playing at their peak. Lightning in a bottle. Hawkins was awful tbh, always a gas can waiting to blow.

eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 Storen has 21 appearances this year and only two of them have been clean. Can we please upgrade the back end of the bullpen already. I'm scared that his recent scoreless streak is going to instil unwarranted confidence in him. The guy sucks.

He should be fine going forward.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 We don't even have any assets to trade for a relieve unless it's a starter and its a baseball trade I.e. hutch
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 Maybe they'll shut down Sanchez earlier at the trade deadline and treat him as a reliever. Then we bring up Hutch to replace him
