Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 "One hit wonder" team. 2015 was the last year-window for the jays
vdubmvp Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 Hitting pitches away when they're on the outer half seems to work. Every time I see your name I get that stupid MacGruber theme song in my head.
Praxis Verified Member Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 Thanks to all for the reply on Dickey's contract btw. Honestly I'm going to tune into Nicolino's first start for the Marlins in a few minutes. I know, I know, quitter!
glory Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 This season has definitely been an eye-opener on Russel Martin. The strike outs are really worrisome. I was expecting a drop off from him towards year 3-5, and was OK with that if he put up great seasons in years 1-2, but a decline in year 2 would be horrendous. Definitely think the Jays should cut bait with him after this season (same with Tulo) just to avoid having to pay them during their major decline years, but finding a team to take them (in Martin's case) or getting equal value (in Tulo's case, never mind the NTC) will be tough. 2015 was memorable and all, and there's still time to turn 2016 around, but I'm looking long haul. The window is closing. Win or lose in 2016, they have to make some decisions on the 30-somethings that will be clogging up $20m AAV into their mid 30's.
Belliss101 Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 I don't know what if your boss offered you half of what you currently make at half the lenght Guess you will jumping all the way to first Shapiro already murdered the spirit of this team. Let's just move on Yet another idiot blaming Shapiro. Some of you people are clueless. Either that or you're just AA fanboys

The more I think about it, the more I hope they walk away from Bautista and Edwin. We might be seeing first hand the downside of guys signed to 20M contracts into their late 30s. Adding one or two more to Tulo and Martin would be scary. Extend Donaldson though!
Statman Verified Member Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 Russell Martin -0.4 WAR before tonight's game and trending downward.

Looks like last year was their chance but they blew it in games 2 and 6. They still might turn this year around but I am starting to doubt it. Martin and tulo are brutal right now as us the bullpen.
jackie Verified Member Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 this game reminds me of the early disappointing games of the 2014 season.

QO offers for Bautista and Encarnacion and let them walk. Extend Donaldson long term and build around Donaldson, Stroman, Travis, Sanchez and Osuna
TorontonianJD Verified Member Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 If Dickey is taken out of the rotation, it will be Floyd who gets to start, not Hutchison. Are you sure about that? Then who replaces Floyd in the pen?

Either that or you're just AA fanboys Shaprio was in a no-win situation after last season I think. If he cut bait and started the rebuild he would have been crucified, but by holding the team largely together we are currently seeing a pretty poor return on his gamble. He'll be given time to turn this around properly though.

He's almost 30, and Devon, Pompey, Sanchez and Stroman isn't a good core to win now

If they lose, it was the same group as 2015 and the new regime hasn't added a single long term deal.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 Martin needs to be put on the DL or something, get him the f*** off this roster.
BTS Community Moderator Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 Why? He's almost 30, and Devon, Pompey, Sanchez and Stroman isn't a good core to win now Because I love him and he's a boss, that's why.
