Happ (1-0, 2.25 ERA) vs Clay Bucholz (0-1, 10.00 ERA) Three things to know about this game • Buchholz is 13-9 with a 3.40 ERA in 28 career games (27 starts) against the Blue Jays. • Jose Bautista has more career at-bats against Buchholz than any other player. He comes in hitting .241 (14-for-58) with one home run, five RBIs and 13 strikeouts. • David Ortiz holds the all-time record for doubles (65), home runs (59) and RBIs (182) against the Blue Jays. Monday will be Ortiz's final Patriots' Day with the Red Sox, as he will retire following the 2016 season. LINEUP: Saunders Donaldson Bautista Encarnacion Tulowitzki Martin Goins Pillar Carrera Yes, Carrera will continue to get ABs as an MLB player. LET'S GO BLUE JAYS! http://www.smartdestinations.com/img/pt/dest/Bos/att/Bos_Att_Fenway_Park_Tour/gallery/Fenway-Park-Tour-1.jpg
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 This one time....at band camp...lots of people on this board said the 4th OF on the team will get enough ABS through days off and injuries to avoid much rust and to provide a positive incremental Win delta. And according to Tabby Gibby said "Carerra did some good things for us last year" which trumps all. So sick of Zeke already. Let's go Jays! Get the split.

Governator Community Moderator Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 You know Cola & Smoak suck when Gibby wants to put Carerra in over them.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 WHY is Carrera in the majors. Make me sick.

jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 This lineup is going to look so much better once Travis is back.
BTS Community Moderator Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 WHY is Carrera in the majors. Make me sick. There is no remotely acceptable justification. He's not an MLB caliber player.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 There is no remotely acceptable justification. He's not an MLB caliber player. Just give Pompey the 4th OF job already, time for him to learn at the MLB level. His AAA K rate is down to 10.6% with a .406 wOBA. Not much power, but we really don't need that from him.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 You know Cola & Smoak suck when Gibby wants to put Carerra in over them. Probably has more to do with giving Bautista a day off from the field.

TBH he'd probably play quite a bit anyway, he only has to compete with Pillar, Colabello and Smoak for ABs. One injury and he's a full-time player.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 What even happened to Cecilianni? Isn't he hurt or something. Atkins pretty much said Pompey was rushed to the Majors so they want him to develop at AAA.
Hal Johnson Verified Member Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 Probably has more to do with giving Bautista a day off from the field. That's what I'm thinking too.

FrozenRopes Verified Member Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 I don't think Gibby likes Pompey. It just seems personal. Zeke over Pompey gets done by 1 manager in the show, and he manages the Jays.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 Do you think prior management rushed Pompey because of the 'Canadian Star' marketing opportunity? AA was in a rush to get value from his prospects whether through trade or pushing them to the roster (Castro, Osuna), I think what he did with Pompey was just part of that m.o.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 ^ I think AA firmly believed and stated many times that revitalizing the market was one of his top priorities. People forget how dead the Jays were after the Halladay trade and the let down of 2009. 2010-2012 were not good years for media attention to the Jays. In 2013 he tried to jump start things and it didn't work. 2015 it did work. The dividends can be seen now, and will be seen for quite some time. People talk about the few prospects he traded away, but they forget how much fan capital he has created for years to come. He probably raised the franchise value by $150-$200 Million just by 2015.

Alex was good, but a little selfish in the final. He shot all the bullets in 2015 to earn name in the market (Hoffman, Norris, Castro, Tinoco, Labourt, Boyd, Wells, Brentz, Cordero, Tirado, Lugo)
CHRIS Verified Member Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 If nothing else, perhaps Pompey's presence also makes Pillar (think about? focus on? appreciate) his situation a bit more and helps to get his (offensive) act in gear. Pillar being cemented into a full-time role still isn't super comfortable me, despite his awesome defense.
