Bautista never looked bad at third base in my opinion. Maybe the metrics disagree but I remember him making all the plays. He just wanted to play RF.

 

He had no range but he made the plays on the balls that got to him. His arm obviously plays at 3B.

This should not be underlooked -- John Gibbons gives the most PAs to Kevin Pillar and doesn't trust him to make anything happen with no outs and a man on base.

 

Instead, Troy Tulowitzki and Michael Saunders made outs to end the game with nothing doing on the bases in the ninth, an inning late of a potential rally. It's not about having a crystal ball, but getting better hitters up more frequently is the sounder move that Gibby refuses to make.

That Brock Holt gave us a tough time tonight! He's really doing well having a regular spot in the lineup.. why is Castillo even on the Red Sox roster if they can't use him?

 

As for the Jays..not sure Gibbons is fully to blame for this loss. Stroman just didn't have it.. and the Sox group of Ortiz/Shaw/HanRam and Brock Holt are off to hot starts. Holt will cool off-- he wears down quickly, as he's traditionally been a bench player.. but is getting regular work due to a lack of decent natural OF options that can hit. TBH, they hit Cleveland hard in the 2 games they got in.. Jays are just going to have to either pitch better and play better defense. Too many good hitters in the Sox lineup..
