GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 People are looking for any magic answer that explains this inexplicable offensive implosion. People need to start realizing that it's just an inopportune cold spell (a very cold spell, tbh) that might be partially related to fatigue. It's not like some screw came off the cog. It just happens. I mean it's still an utter choke in the making. I'm holding out hope it turns around. But it's not like there's some thread you look back on that unraveled everything. don't get your hopes up for people to understand this

I agree with this. When things go bad people pile on looking to do dissect narratives that can be created as possible reasons for the skid. When the Red Sox were skidding earlier Pussnuts Farrel was on the block etc. now they are rolling and all the talk and worries have washed away. I have hope they get hot at the end...win the WC game and then roll in the playoffs. I don't know what the mathematical probability of that is and don't care, but this team is very talented.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 I know that. He has also had some injuries. Im just contrasting(lamenting) what seemed to work last year for the final 70+ game of the season that is missing now. I don't think 2015 Revere would make much of a difference. He is more than offset by Travis who was MIA the 2nd half last season. The real issue with the position players is injuries (for example Martin has battled injuries probably 3/4 of the season), and Odor's punch.

Yikes.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 I can't believe he still has his office and has been "contributing" every day. Haha wat.
BTS Community Moderator Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 Paul Beeston can choke on a big bag of veiny dicks
CHRIS Verified Member Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 They probably couldn't get the cigar (or shoes with no socks smell) out of his office and felt that throwing him a ceremonial title was the best way to stem the, "Why can't we go in there?" queries.
VE2OH Verified Member Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 you're out to lunch if you think their pitching has been the problem Everything is the problem, upsetting the team was the problem. Your comments is also the problem.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 From that interview of PTS, where Bobcat was obviously trying to goud Shapiro into discussing available resources and probably put extra pressure on Rogers, it seems that Shapiro and Beeston can re-sign Edwin and Bautista if they feel it's the correct direction, without worry about ownership push-back.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 Him and Shapiro on Prime Time was interesting. Shapiro couldn't be as upfront as he normally is about Dunedin...but he still kept having to interpret what he was saying. He brings the ratings to Shapiro every day. I guarantee that narrative is "stars sell".

Everyone sits there and bitches about payroll and blaming Rogers. AA said multiple times that Rogers said that they will put the money into the team if it's a good investment. Are either player a good investment when they will both be making 20 mil+? When you factor in aging and Martin and Tulos contracts you probably will be better off taking 2 first round picks and getting a bit younger.

I think Bautista is offered a 2-yr 30-40m deal to rebuild his value and Edwin is offered a 4-5 yr deal, both on the back of the increase in revenues and the correlation with their star power. Increased resources will allow for more risk so some of those die rolls are possible. It seems that Shapiro agreed that they need to stay competitive for 2-3 yrs (even if they're old) until the high potential prospects are ready to contribute.

He will be 38/39 at the end of it so rebuilding value at that age is unlikely. I think Edwin's season is over rated. Lowest wRC+ since 2011 and K rate up 5%. 3.5 WAR. I'd hate to commit to more to more than 3. Rather take the picks. Its going to be interesting.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 I'm ashamed that our fans treat the most important man in the building of this franchise with such contempt. I get that some of the baseball related things he has said were head scratchers, but his positive contributions to the franchise are unrivaled. You guys don't deserve to call yourselves fans in my opinion.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 Ya, you are probably right on Revere. We had him hitting well and Goins hitting the best of his career both from the left side the last third of 2015. I liked the speed, D, 10% K rate and the contact. Travis has a 114 wRC+ but he is K'ing 20% of the time and BBing less than 2015. But in terms of the effect on the lineup there is little difference between Travis and "Revere 2015" What is the difference?? You'd have to look closely at every position. However I bet it is simply this A lot positions are 10-15% worse Even 3rd base is worse because Donaldson had DH'd a bit and Goins/Barney have games at third Catcher is worse because Martin is worse, and Thole is worse than Navarro 2nd is worse because Travis a tad worse (but healthier) and Goins is crazy worse 1b/DH is worse because EE is a bit worse, and Smoak is worse, and Colabello was horrible for 30 at bats and then his at bats were given to bad Bautista who is DHing more and Upton. What else?? Center is worse becasue Pillar is a bit worse. 1. Normal regression 2. Normal aging 3. Fluky part time players (Colabello/Goins/Valancia) gone or replaced by s*** or turned to s***.

There is plenty of reason for distaste in his direction.

Beeston was a two bit accountant who wasn't qualified to be a two bit accountant, he was hired as president in 1989 and within 5 years had the team in a 20 year distaster.
