BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 I hope I don't sound like a weirdo, but I think it is a bit more then "Just entertainment", being a dedicated fan of a team, that becomes a bit of the fabric of a person if that makes any sense. I view the Jays as a bit more then entertainment, it makes me feel a heck of a lot different watching them in the playoffs then any other forms of entertainment. Ya, its more than entertainment to me. I don't know why. Maybe its just being an Expos and Jays fan for decades...then tasting those wins in 92 & 93....and then 20 years of nada. The high of that game 5 against Tex was much better than any alcohol or drugs could provide. But we had to win or it would have just sucked. I'm also the same when Canada plays best on best hockey. Wit that its a Maple Leaf national pride thing. I hate losing. Takes me a long time to get over it.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 He would really only be serviceable as a long man. Would he be any different from he is as a SP, as a reliever? It's not like his knuckleball would "play up" out of the bullpen. And it would be hard to bring him in with runners on due to the passed balls. Might be able to get value out of the dickey effect if you brought him in to pitch one time through the order and then put the real SP in. Something of the latter makes sense, bringing in Dickey to pitch to mop up would be dumn bro. Martin doesn't want to catch him, plus the immediate difference to him from a conventional pitcher to butterfly tosser. It just doesn't seem right, so yeah, I agree.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 Gibby apparently trying to line up rotation to face Red Sox I doubt he thought of it but sure we can give him the credit I guess lol.

It doesn't bother me until about mid August, and like you've said it's been missing for a long time, now it gets intense. I remember years back people freaking out and I said wait until you're in a pennant race or the Postseason, lol... it's unlike any other experience.

Fair enough, for me when I think back to my childhood...along with other important moments, Joe Carters HR, Alomars HR, first division title and other big Jays moments are high among the other great memories, no other form of entertainment does that for me. My father got me into the Jays and baseball at a young age.

I have been in panic mode since we lost the 3 game of the season on Jose's slide into 2B. Lol
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 We signed Quintin Berry on the 31st.
UWHabs Verified Member Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 Don't worry. He won't be on playoff roster. And with the extended bullpens, if he gets into trouble, we can yank him after 2-3 innings and have enough arms to get through the game. And with 3 catchers, at that point can still pinch hit for Thole so we don't have to keep his lack of a bat in the lineup any more than needed.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 We signed Quintin Berry on the 31st. Not to the 40... http://www.rosterresource.com/mlb-toronto-blue-jays/

Belliss101 Old-Timey Member Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 Archer has been extremely good over the last little while. I fear for our first place life today. Hopefully the bats have finally arrived in Tampa today.

Candy Maldonado Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 This is Toronto's 15th ejection of 2016, 1st in MLB & AL East (TOR 15; BOS 6; BAL 3; NYY, TB 2). This is John Gibbons' MLB-leading 7th ejection of 2016, 1st since July 1

Watched the game again and he said to the crew chief (if I read lips correctly) that he appreciated getting tossed over Martin.

This is John Gibbons' MLB-leading 7th ejection of 2016, 1st since July 1 I've seen guys from other teams argue more than the Jays and not get tossed. It seems as though all the Jays have to do is breathe in the general direction of an ump and they're gone.
flafson Verified Member Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 Say what you want about Gibby but he knows how to handle his star players, the fact that he gets ejected so much instead of the players suggests that.

He seems like a great guy to handle the behind the scenes stuff in the clubhouse and that's the only reason I can think of as to why he's still around.

I'm sure there are other reasons but that does seem like his main calling card.
King Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 I'm sure there are other reasons but that does seem like his main calling card. That's good and all but it would be nice if he didn't go full retard with his lineup constructions and in game management (bullpen, pinch hitting/running opportunities etc) every game.

I'm usually ok with most things he does but it really bothers me when he brings Osuna in a non saving situation, happens way too often...
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 Bautista uses up most of the quota, so not much left for other players. It's hard for me to be too hard on Jose because he's almost always right and he knows it. Competent umpires would solve that problem.
