Cyborg Verified Member Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 He walked a ton yes but he had the pitching arsenal to get out of it a lot of times. Some luck yes, but also a reflection of his talent. It is very common for young, talented pitchers to struggle with control when they first come to MLB. Sanchez' upside was quite evident last year. What no one could predict was the speed at which he would start reaching his ceiling. You cant pretend he wasnt anything but complete s*** in the rotation last year. He is a completely different pitcher this year.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 5, 2016 Author Posted August 5, 2016 Has he been asked about Barnes at all? Haven't heard anyone in the org mention him since his call up

Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 No way he's that articulate. Just add "well, yeah, y'know" to the front of each statement.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 BS and you know it. Jim he is right. I'll give you this, yourself and a group of others had complete faith in him which was completely nonsensical
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 It's only a mistake if you can prove they would of had more viewers for the Jays if they were on the main channels more then what they would lose with the Rogers Cup moving to SN1. Considering the difference in viewers from Friday to Saturday and Sunday games is more than the number of viewers the Rogers Cup produced total I would say that is true.. Sunday probably would have got close to 1.5 Million considering the Jays were going for the sweep and it was a close game.

So all they to do was just put it in on the main channels and it would have pulled the most viewers all season! Of course! Broadcasting is so easy.

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 Ummm I predicted 3+ WAR before the season started, but he's been better than that so ya I knew you'd be on that quote loud and proud, but you're right he has been better than that. You lose.

I'll give you this, yourself and a group of others had complete faith in him which was completely nonsensical Looking at his talent instead of his numbers isn't nonsensical. The Astros would trade us Alex Bergman for a PTBNL now if that were the case. We saw him with excellent command in the bullpen and it should have been obvious to everyone that he was just a small mechanical adjustment away. Instead of admitting that you were unable to evaluate this properly, you pretend that he made this magical transformation. It's always that way when stat scouts are wrong.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 Has he been asked about Barnes at all? Barnes is our secret weapon nobody needs to talk about him.

Excellent command is Maddux. Throwing one pitch for strikes is easier than throwing 3 pitches for quality strikes while changing speeds. Don't give me s*** because I thought my head instead of my heart. He was a terrible starter last season. Does control as a starter go from 5+ walks per 9 to 2 and half the newest year, no! Something changed and I'm willing to bet you have no idea what it is.
Hipfan Verified Member Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 Well I'm not saying you have to trade him but if you can get an amazing return you absolutely do it. Call Dave Stewart, and see what he'd give up for a Cy Young caliber pitcher!

You missed the obvious precisely because you weren't using your head. His stuff is so good that he doesn't need to change speeds. He still doesn't do it with any regularity. I'm not going to argue semantics with you, but suffice to say his command was good enough in multiple innings out of the 'pen to make it plainly obvious that he had made some adjustments (and no I don't know what they were). Even in spring training, it was clear that he was ready to be a good starting pitcher.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 Call Dave Stewart, and see what he'd give up for a Cy Young caliber pitcher! That Goldschmidt guy looks nice.
JuniorFelix Verified Member Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 That's great...Atkins actually looks like he's smugly taking it in.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 5, 2016 Author Posted August 5, 2016 He isn't completely different. He just has more command. It's not like he started throwing harder or just developed a curveball this year is it? He had only one plus pitch. There was legitimate reason to believe he might struggle as a starter.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 He had only one plus pitch. There was legitimate reason to believe he might struggle as a starter. He still does in my opinion. The curve and change have been effective, but that's almost entirely because of his fastball that he throws more than 3/4 of the time. He can carve up a lineup first time through on just one pitch and then mix in his secondaries later. That's extremely difficult for a hitter.
nextyear Verified Member Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 Upton has really looked bad at the plate. I remember him playing against the Blue Jays when he was with Tampa and he seemed like a good hitter. What's up with Upton? Here is tonight's lineup:
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 Is this Suanders guy any good? Legit 5 tool talent
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 I hope the jays offense shows up with an edge this series. There should still be bad blood between these teams and jays play best pissed off.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 Is this Suanders guy any good? Hopefully he doesn't strike out 3 times every game like Saunders has been doing.
