HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 Apparently the Jays are fapping hard over this guy: https://fan-interference.com/2016/07/20/multiple-mlb-teams-scouting-heavily-on-16-yr-old-hs-outfielder-from-japan/ Real surprising that they scout these guys so far in advance. It's gonna be awhile before he even reaches MLB, if he pans out at all

devo Verified Member Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 What's the status on that stud Japanese pitcher/hitter...is he coming to the US next year? Article says hes not eligible to play in the ML until he has 7 years service in the Japan league. But maybe if he moved to the US to finish high school he could skirt those rules somehow. Just speculating here.

KevinGregg Verified Member Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 In that case he should move to some other country to avoid the draft. Since he is 16 if he moved somewhere like Germany or whatever could we sign him immediately (as soon as he established residence outside of Japan)
polar bear Verified Member Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 Yeah I mean it's possible although a team may just not even want Cola or Goins unless they value them as org depth. But last year we traded 3 bums in A-ball for Mark Lowe. We also got Grilli for nothing this year. Mark Lowe was utter crap though.

I'm talking the stud they've been talking about for a few years. I don't remember his name though. He's like 25.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 Mark Lowe was utter crap though. Not when we traded for him nor was he that bad for us after we acquired him.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 Mark Lowe was utter crap though. I guess it was SSS, but Lowe was completely different on the Jays. K% dropped from 11.75 to 6.63, GB% went from 36% to 46%, BB% dropped from 2.75 to 0.47, velocity was up a tick, effectiveness was down. Very bizarre. Did Walker tell him to pitch to contact??? Glad we avoiding that ticking time bomb this offseason.

Got to imagine he ends up in the NL when he finally makes the transition to the ML though.

Candy Maldonado Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 Darwin playing left field (lol) and hitting lead off (srsly Gibby?) herpderp Saunders hurt?

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 I like this idea. It wouldn't work, it goes against there bargaining agreement with the MLB.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 (edited) Darwin playing left field (lol) and hitting lead off (srsly Gibby?) This beyond stupid...also why the hell is Travis not leading off Edited July 20, 2016 by LetTheBallFly

KevinGregg Verified Member Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 It wouldn't work, it goes against there bargaining agreement with the MLB. but how does that work if the kid leaves Japan several years before the end of high school? What if he left Japan when he was 5 years old instead of 16, then could he come to MLB immediately? how many years must you play in Japan before you are subject to the rules of the agreement?
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 Well that sucks. Let players play at the highest level. Stupid. Meh, I bet he signs on with a West Coast NL team, so he's close to Japan and can hit. On his off days he plays LF and DH's, lol.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 This beyond stupid...also why the hell is Travis leading off Saunders sitting against the LHP, Barney can play the OF. Travis isn't leading off, Barney is?
Sorrow Verified Member Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 Well, I'm not sure if this video belongs here or in the Off Topic section but I think it explains where Buck Martinez has been. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1fKfMUR9qVk Obviously I stole this off reddit.

I can't believe Buck agreed to that.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 Bautista Why would he? It eliminates the draft pick compensation and they're as much of a playoff team as the Jays are. If I'm the Jays - I'd do this trade - and it's actually something I could see happening...
Sorrow Verified Member Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 I can't believe Buck agreed to that. All that free Shock Top he probably took as payment.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 Puig isnt the big deal, but i want him over Jose+125M
