What's the status on that stud Japanese pitcher/hitter...is he coming to the US next year?

Article says hes not eligible to play in the ML until he has 7 years service in the Japan league. But maybe if he moved to the US to finish high school he could skirt those rules somehow. Just speculating here.

In that case he should move to some other country to avoid the draft.

Since he is 16 if he moved somewhere like Germany or whatever could we sign him immediately (as soon as he established residence outside of Japan)

Yeah I mean it's possible although a team may just not even want Cola or Goins unless they value them as org depth.

But last year we traded 3 bums in A-ball for Mark Lowe. We also got Grilli for nothing this year.

Mark Lowe was utter crap though.

I'm not talking about this 16 year old kid. I'm talking the stud they've been talking about for a few years. I don't remember his name though. He's like 25.

I guess it was SSS, but Lowe was completely different on the Jays. K% dropped from 11.75 to 6.63, GB% went from 36% to 46%, BB% dropped from 2.75 to 0.47, velocity was up a tick, effectiveness was down. Very bizarre. Did Walker tell him to pitch to contact???

Glad we avoiding that ticking time bomb this offseason.

You must be talking about Shohei Otani then. Hes in his 4th JPPL season so hes still got a few years to go. Got to imagine he ends up in the NL when he finally makes the transition to the ML though.

I like this idea.

Shohei Otani, I think he has 4 years service(started right out of high school), still another 3 years, he's only 22.

Well that sucks. Let players play at the highest level. Stupid.

It wouldn't work, it goes against there bargaining agreement with the MLB.

but how does that work if the kid leaves Japan several years before the end of high school? What if he left Japan when he was 5 years old instead of 16, then could he come to MLB immediately? how many years must you play in Japan before you are subject to the rules of the agreement?

Meh, I bet he signs on with a West Coast NL team, so he's close to Japan and can hit. On his off days he plays LF and DH's, lol.

Obviously, and I'm not sure.

Saunders sitting against the LHP, Barney can play the OF. Travis isn't leading off, Barney is?

Bautista

Why would he? It eliminates the draft pick compensation and they're as much of a playoff team as the Jays are.

If I'm the Jays - I'd do this trade - and it's actually something I could see happening...

I can't believe Buck agreed to that.

All that free Shock Top he probably took as payment.
