I just looked out of curiosity It was the other way around They beat us 6 out of 7 in April, including a series sweep I had long since forgotten too http://toronto.bluejays.mlb.com/schedule/sortable.jsp?c_id=tor

Yesterday was a perfect example of what will have to be the MO this year: get 5-6 mediocre to bad innings from the starter, let the offense do it's thing, then turn it over to the pen to lock it down.

I don't expect our starting rotation to give us 5 bad innings every game but I think aiming for quality starts @ 6 innings 3 runs is pretty ideal to hand it over. That's what I expect from our starters.

I think Stro and Happ could outperform that expectation, but I do expect something close to that from Dickey, Estrada, Sanchez (not buying into the change just yet).

Our D this year is dramatically improved from what we saw @ the beginning of 2015 and I think its a big X factor for the rotation, complemented by a deeper pen. We saw it yesterday with Tulo's pick with KK @ 2B. It saved a run. Reyes doesn't make that pick(and if he does he duffs the throw). Pillar started 2015 in LF lol. I don't expect much from him, but Cola is even playing better @ 1B with a couple of nice stabs already.

I really don't see why people are so harsh on Cola's D? He's a very good defender at 1st. last year he was made to play LF which was a disaster but not his fault. He's a very capable first basemen, but people talk like he's Hanley Ramirez???

93 Jays Verified Member Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 Dickey's been well above average for years now, can this narration end, please, MJ. Look at his RA9, he's provided a shitload of value since he's been here. and he provided more last night. His out pitch was there when he needed it and he kept his team in the lead until his bullpen rode it the rest of the way to victory. How soon people forget his performance at Yankee stadium last year when the Jays got that sweep that buried the yanks. His numbers may not be CY Young calibre anymore, but they're more than good enough to service a slot in this rotation
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 Defensively this team is unbelievable. I think this may be the best defensive Jays team ever.

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 Dickey was horrible last night. A half decent offense would have taken him to cleaners

Agree that Smoak's range is limited but he seems adept at GBs and picking throws. I am just going by the eye test on Cola (nothing to do with LF - he gave us all he had out there). He started out pretty badly at 1B but seems to have improved latter stages 2015. I was at the TEX- TOR playoff game where he made that great play which still stands out in my mind, and in the off season he talked a lot about showing people that he is better @ 1B than people have considered. I hope he does.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 Watching Tulo on defense is so fun. Its so refreshing watching him play SS instead of that piece of concrete Reyes. The only play he should have made was bad luck with the ball getting stuck between the webbing in his glove.

He's one of the best hitters of all time at his position and yet whatever he contributes offensively feels like gravy. How crazy is that?
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2016 Author Posted April 5, 2016 Smoak at 1B instead of Colabello will help too I hope Gibbons starts to use that platoon correctly, Smoak in against a RHP, Cola in against LHP, it would be so more efficient.
Spoonovic Verified Member Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 Defensively this team is unbelievable. I think this may be the best defensive Jays team ever. Those Lyle Overbay, Vernon Wells, Alex Rios, Scott Rolen, Aaron Hill, Johny Mac teams were pretty damn good defensively.
