Sorrow Verified Member Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 We're facing Archer, my only question is why is Colabello (who had a terrible spring and hasn't looked good at all at judging the strikezone) playing over Smoak who had a great spring and had a really good handle of the strikezone.
KinofChaos Verified Member Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 Gibby on TV with Jackie Redmond....Bet he has a big stiffy. We're facing Archer, my only question is why is Colabello (who had a terrible spring and hasn't looked good at all at judging the strikezone) playing over Smoak who had a great spring and had a really good handle of the strikezone. John Gibbons.

Agree. Seems the natural choice here, especially considering it's a platoon situation (or should be). Other than that, I'm fine with the lineup until the Pillar experiment ends. Which, IMO, will be ugly for all parties. "Demoting" a hard-nosed, fantastic player like Pillar because they put him in a position to fail seems like a likely outcome here. Not looking forward to the "I'll work on my game and see if I can make it back up there" interview from Pillar when he goes from #1 to #8/9 in the lineup. This decision is shortsighted on every conceivable level.

Colabello against a righty is a head scratcher. I guess this is just Gibby wanting to reward Cola.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2016 Author Posted April 3, 2016 Probably shouldn't have put the Let's Gooo Blue Jays part in then. I got a little excited. My bad.

havok24 Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 A lineup with multiple elite hitters and Kevin Pillar is the guy batting 1st, okay.
Inklink Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 Hello friends! Nothing gets you in the baseball mood than starting the season in a craphole stadium!

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 A lineup with multiple elite hitters and Kevin Pillar is the guy batting 1st, okay. This is pretty much an idiot proof lineup which is good because a) Pillar is hitting leadoff Cola is facing a righty c) Cola is hitting ahead of Martin against a righty
glory Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 Colabello will start most of the games at 1B. That was known in November. Gibbons plays "his guys" and doesn't look at numbers or percentages. The only way that changes is if Cola has a terrible start to the season, and even then his rope will be pretty long. Smoak is a $4m back-up. Unless Cola is traded or demoted, that's just the reality of the situation. That's why I was hoping they traded Cola and signed someone like Raburn to come off the bench. WOuld have made more sense roster-wise. But Gibbons is running this team, apparently, based on the roster decisions.

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 You guys Need to relax. It's customary to reward opening day starts. The is Gibby. Smoak will get plenty of at bats against LHP. LMAO Well everything is well in line for it all to go terribly wrong this year isn't it.
KinofChaos Verified Member Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 Hello friends! Nothing gets you in the baseball mood than starting the season in a craphole stadium! This is probably the last place I want the Jays to start the season. Awful stadium and a place bad things usually happen for the Jays.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 To be fair a lot of teams probably say the same thing about our stadium in April. That concrete dome is pretty blah.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 ^ Don't worry according to all sources the Royals are well in line to repeat as champs. They have their biggest assets ready to go again Luck Chance Randomness in the universe Royals baseball is about putting the ball in play and waiting for good things to happen. Predictions on how long Cola is on the team. I'd say June until he hits .190 and goes to Buffalo to figure things out
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 Pretty interesting lineup for the Pirates with Freese hitting third. Clearly aren't going for the 3-hitter "honour" type of lineup. Cutch 2nd (HBP) and Marte 4th.

They need to freshen up the outside or at least wash it, I was pretty surprised as first timer last season seeing it up close.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 No Smoak is kind of a piss off. Would have liked to have our best defensive team on the field plus Smoak had a red hot Spring.

Could have saved a baserunner, I guess, but jesus.
