Governator Community Moderator Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 Edwin may not be ready. true except he'll claim he's ready after wrecking minor league pitchers for a week.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 Edwin is like Randy Choate. Two pitches in march and he's ready to go. Or the David Wells spring training program.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 So basically the role Hendriks would have had if used properly. Little to suggest Gibby would use him in that role though...
BTS Community Moderator Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 Little to suggest Gibby would use him in that role though... I really don't like that as justification for the trade. Gibby works for Shatkins. If he's using Hendriks in low-leverage spots in April you call him up and tell him to stop doing that.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 I kind of like the idea of Venditte as a LOOGY who can get out one non-elite RHB between 2 lefties. Yeah, so do I. He's definitely a better loogy, but these are his career MiLB splits:

Split IP FIP SIERA K/9

v L as L 46.1 1.65 2.09 12.04

v L as R 45.1 3.00 3.13 10.13

v R as L 77.2 3.26 3.70 7.88

v R as R 73.2 3.84 4.23 7.94

Keep him away from facing righties as a righty (and most switch hitters probably don't choose that anyway) and he should be fine.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 I don't know about you guys but our BP is gonna be crazy good. If only we had vintage Delaballs and Loup

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 Apparently Osuna is the favourite to be named for the closing job?
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 Storen going to be robbed of a closing role again?
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 Storen going to be robbed of a closing role again? Well, sort of, but given that Osuna is the only one of the late inning relievers under control for 2017, it's not too surprising.

I think that works against Osuna tbh. If he gets saves this season his salary in arb. will be much higher.
BTS Community Moderator Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 Smart play would be Storen as save collector.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 His 2013 season was the most feel good story of a player I've seen in a Jay uniform. I was really disappointed last Spring when they didn't keep him on, not to mention how senseless it was losing a year a of control of Castro / Osuna at the time. I hope he finds success elsewhere. He was filthy in 2013 K'ing 12.58 per 9. However, he also BB'ed 4.45 per 9 indicating what was to come lol. He story is amazing and in 2014 it was a big part of the promo for the team. I remember watching it at the RC on the big screens. Its too bad.
UKBlueJaysFan Verified Member Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 I would have kept him in AAA but think it comes down to the numbers game. Too many good arms ahead in the packing order and was never going to have the chance to make an impact this season, Too much depth. But some team will raise the bar with Delabar.

Would have to pass through waivers and he never would.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 Thought he had one left? Even if not, worth trying to pass him through on the off chance? Well they save 750K by releasing him. That'd be a lot to pay someone who isn't going to make the team.
