BlueBirdBro Verified Member Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 Did Martin hit the home run wearing his catching gear?

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 Jenknutz new closure. Good win. Nice quality.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 Its always a good day to beat Baltimore
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 5, 2016 Posted March 5, 2016 Happ only threw 8 pitches today, I wonder if he went and tossed some BP after his interview.
SAAviour Verified Member Posted March 5, 2016 Posted March 5, 2016 Went to my first spring game ever today. Happ looked good, averaged 93 on stadium radar. Penny was garbage, though it looked like he was throwing at 80% effort, which might be the case being his first outing. He hit 89 once, 88 twice I think (maybe once), and sat 87 on almost every pitch. Pompey seems so legit to me. Crushed his home run. Wind was blowing out quite hard to right field. Hard to tell, but Alford looked like he had 2 bad calls in his at bat. Likelier easier to see on tv. Rowdy smoked his single.

Spring training pitch counts aren't accurate. I think they only include a strike for each out, three strikes for a strikeout, 4 balls for a walk and a strike for a hit. Happ got six outs and gave up two hits so it just says he threw 8 pitches.

The Alford calls appeared borderline at best on tv but the camera angle is so low that you can't actually see homeplate on tv.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted March 5, 2016 Posted March 5, 2016 Pompey is a really good prospect. I don't get why people want crap like A-Jax taking ABs away from him. Truth

I think Pompey is a good prospect as well. That doesn't mean signing Jackson isn't a good idea. Do you really want to start the season with Pompey in LF and Carrera/Brown as the back-ups? That was basically the alignment last season, which lead to Colabello, Valencia, and Carrera playing LF until they traded for Revere. You still need depth.

I think the people who want Austin Jackson basically just don't think Saunders will be healthy enough to contribute at all. Bautista also comes with age based injury concerns. Bautista --> old; injury risk Pillar --> the offensive downside is real Saunders --> massive injury risk Pompey --> prospect risk It's not difficult to understand the desire for one more viable OF. Good roster construction involves creating robust rosters that do not crack when faced with adversity. Great roster construction involves creating anti-fragile rosters that can potentially respond positively to adversity. Part of that, sometimes, involves putting talented prospects with options in AAA.

My concerns with Saunders are he looked like a sloth in the OF when he "was" supposedly healthy, not that he's an "injury risk" (what does that even mean). Pillar has more upside offensively then downside IMO. Bautista seems like he keeps himself in good shape, I think the injuries have been because of bad luck more than being "injury prone". Pompey may well never become a good player.

Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
