Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/previewing-the-best-and-worst-team-defenses/ Not too shabby.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Tulo, Donaldson, Martin, Pillar, Travis/Goins is probably as good as any group in the league up the middle
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 29, 2016 Author Posted February 29, 2016 #1 offence and #2 defence can definitely make up for a middle of the pack rotation.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 "What’s worse is that the (White Sox) infield doesn’t look like it will pick up the slack; third base, now manned by Todd Frazier, is the only position on the team that receives an above-average projection." So Lawrie not even projected for above average defense anymore? Sad.

Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Exactly This is how we will win Happ Dickey and Estrada will benefit from this defense as long as they don't give up crazy HR numbers We'll go crazy when Dickey still manages to lose games by giving up 4 home runs in the 5th through 7th innings in May and June before post all star break weather conditions allow him not to suck. I'm optimistic on the rest of the rotation pulling through.

Whenever I have doubts about the pitching staff of this team, I just look at the 1993 starting staff. This staff is clearly better than that one: http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/TOR/1993.shtml Different era in terms of respecting advanced stats, paying attention to K:BB and "pitching to the score" with Morris, but still. Seeing Guzman go 14-3 and Hentgen go 19-9 just showing up every fifth day with very pedestrian numbers gives me hope. Stroman and whoever the Jays' #2 guy ends up being should be able to do better than that at an aggregate. The other three guys were essentially #4/5 pitchers and the Jays have no shortage of that.

What if the knuckleball dances a little more this year and he sucks slightly less early in the season and his numbers look great at the end of the year and people aren't quite sure what to do?

What if Dickey ends up pitching here for 10 years? He will outlast Thor and D'Arnaud and AA will be vindicated. Uhmm...Dickey has been fine. RA9 doesn't lie. You guys are f***ed. The trade sucks, not Dickey, it isn't his fault.

I ain't complaining about Dickey at all, I have no issue with what he brings to the table. My comment was more about what to do with him at the end of year if he has 2nd best year of his career.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 Does Dickey seem like a guy who will want to play into his 40's?
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 I agree if he does well, the Jays can always bring him back. I have no issues with him and hope he does well. But people have to admit he was very frustrating to watch in the first half of the year. The team has a solid lead and he was pitching great after 4. Then innings 5-7 he implodes. We can all only hope that he has another Mets 2012 season!
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 He's a tough guy to figure. But since he didn't become good until he was 35 I'm thinking he might want to keep at it.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 Does Dickey seem like a guy who will want to play into his 40's? I wouldn't be surprised if he retires after this season.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 Does Dickey seem like a guy who will want to play into his 40's? He's talked in the past about himself having a much longer career than conventional pitchers. As long as he can compete. He'll be sticking around for a few more years, no doubt.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 Does Dickey seem like a guy who will want to play into his 40's? Hard to tell either way, but he comes off like a guy who loves to play. I say he keeps on keepin' on until his results fall off the map.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 Some of the defensive projections seems fairly low too so I think they are even better than this. Goins and Pillar should be better than that I would think.
