Chowder888 Verified Member Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 (edited) Pompey + Alford + Dickey + Thole for Jay Bruce. Would you do it this year to solidify another playoff run? I prefer Bruce over Justin Smoak. Jay Bruce: - Solidies the left field option - Adds a much needed left handed power bat - 1 year left at 12 million, and another option year at 13 million. - potential gold glove/silver slugger candidate - will prob hit 35-40 HR at hitter friendly Rogers center. - will help ease the pain of either/both of EE or Bautista walking next season - still young, 28 years old - pretty durable health wise Edited February 22, 2016 by Chowder888

I've posted his stats from his last two season as well as his current Steamer projection below. He still hits some homeruns but he's not a 35-40 guy anymore, his slash line is brutal and by fWAR he's a negative asset defensively. He's not a Gold Glove or Silver Slugger candidate by any reasonable stretch and when you factor his salary, he's a negative asset. There's absolutely no reason to give up anything of value for Jay Bruce at this point. Certainly not 1/5 of your rotation and 2/3 of what might be your OF of the future. Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 I wouldn't trade any of those players for Bruce straight up. Ok, maybe Thole. And only if the Reds ate cash

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Ahem! I don't like making that assumption. I don't think it's fair to posters who might merely be casuals and not well versed in baseball stats.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 (edited) That is a weird trade proposal. I'd be interested in trading for anyone that makes the team better...but it would have to be the right deal. What we saw in the OP is NOT the right deal. Edited February 22, 2016 by Krylian

Bruce has negative trade value. To even trade Alford alone for him would be a firable decision.

GD Old-Timey Member Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Why wouldn't we just trade for Oswaldo Arcia or someone instead

gbill2004 Verified Member Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 @jonheyman: Jays are said to like Jay Bruce very much. Word is, deal could be in works.
