"He got in touch with the same Duke University physical therapists who oversaw Marcus Stroman’s rehabilitation from knee surgery, listening to their advice about how best to approach the rest of his season. Shortly after it came to its end in Kansas City last October, Sanchez hopped on a plane and flew to Durham, N.C., to work with the Duke team in person, training two times a day, five days a week, with an additional session on weekends.

He slowly added 25 pounds to his frame and substantially increased his flexibility and range of motion. He also focused on what he consumed more than ever before, working closely with a Duke nutritionist and having seven days worth of meals cooked for him at the beginning of each week."

We don't have the technology to measure actual muscle mass. He probably put on 25 lbs of general mass and is estimating that it is mostly muscle, by measuring that his percentage of body fat is unchanged.

“It was one of those things where I told myself, ‘Alright, just get through the year, and then this off-season you’ve got a lot of work to put in,’” Sanchez says, sweat still dotting his forehead after a Wednesday morning workout in Dunedin. “I was weak. I wasn’t able to do the things that I needed to. I didn’t have the stability. And now that I do, it’s a total transformation. Now I just worry about execution, rather than if I’m strong enough to execute.”

It is possible for men to continue to grow (naturally add muscle mass) until they are 25, although most stop naturally adding muscle mass by 21.

Probably should have just worked on his pitching tbh

He worked to latst more at the mound, but didn't worked in his pitches.

Its bizarre

Its great that Sanchez is stronger than ever and durable but its going to come down to command. Commanding the fastball will be the biggest key to his success.

he just needs to control it. command not critical when you have that velocity and movement. key for him is developing a 3rd pitch - apparently was working on a changeup in the offseason

Problems with Aaron Sanchez:

- Command isn't good.

- Has no effective out pitch.

- Has no third pitch.

Sanchez' offseason plan to get better:

- Add as much muscle and fat as possible!

i'm sure he followed the plan the BJs put together

also, your 2nd and 3rd bullets are closely related

To be fair Sanchez did say mechanically he's the best he's ever been. Correcting muscle imbalances goes a long way to stabilizing everything.

Thanks for clearing all of this up

With all this talk about him adding muscle, has he even once discussed actually working on his pitches and/or command in the off-season?

Big muscle = throw better. no?

Just look at the knuckler that Canseco had.

Pitchers don't start throwing again until after the holidays, late December early January, and that's just building up arm strength. Unless they are assigned to throw in winterball by their club.

Crazy prediction:

Aaron Sanchez becomes a regular part of the rotation this season and is not our worst regular starter

I've got a good feeling that either he or Hutch is going to surprise a lot of people this coming season.
