Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Who cares that he's left handed? He's an awful hitter and a very bad baseball player. Thole projects for 0.1 WAR in 98 at-bats. His career wOBA is better than 11 teams got from their catchers last year, including the Mets and Cardinals. You have unrealistic expectations of a backup catcher.

You can aim for a backup catcher that's not replacement level. That's not unrealistic.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Thole will be fine. Could do worse than a LH hitter with good D. That's a pretty big risk to take. One injury and your full-time catcher is Thole who's only saving grace is catching Dickey
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 This isn't about Thole. This is about upgrading on A.J. Jimenez.

baseballsss Verified Member Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 I see Hutch in the rotation and Chavez as the long man out of the pen to start the season. Chavez is in a contract year. They will start him as a starter and hope he does amazing so they can get a pick.

Lol that isn't how it works... My guess is they want the best team as possible and that would have Hutch as the #5 starter with Chavez the long man.
