Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted January 27, 2023 Posted January 27, 2023 Excellent, Stang's a newbie, I've already sent a very very wise offer. Beware of Wolves in Sheep's clothing Stangstag! Welcome Aboard!
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2023 Posted January 28, 2023 Hahaha... DM'd him on FT just asking which direction he'd be leaning and to let me know. He's likely been bombarded, welcome Stangstag!
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2023 Posted January 28, 2023 Thanks for having me. First time doing any kind of fantasy league, though I’ve done the MLB the show franchise stuff before. I will likely hold/stand pat for the next few days until I figure things out and get a chance to dive deeper into my roster. Trade offers are welcome but I won’t be accepting any for now. Hopefully I won’t be a complete disaster here lol.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2023 Posted January 28, 2023 Stang - only piece of advice is take your time with trades. Reach out to a board member who is not in BORED if you want to see if a trade is fair or foul. Thanks for the advice

Then decide which guys you want to build around/trade. Top 100 prospects hold a fair amount of value. Everyone likes first round picks and seconds to an extent. Picks after that start to lose value quickly IMO The best teams usually have lots of starting pitching. 7-8 quality guys. Keep that in mind.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2023 Posted January 28, 2023 Haven't been able to find this info... How exactly does player control work in this league?
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 28, 2023 Posted January 28, 2023 Haven't been able to find this info... How exactly does player control work in this league? If a player is on your roster, he’s yours until you trade or drop him.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2023 Posted January 28, 2023 Haven't been able to find this info... How exactly does player control work in this league? You can keep guys on your farm there as long as you want. But once you promote to your MLB roster, cannot go back to farm unless the player gets a green flag i.e., demoted by the MLB team. Unowned prospects can only be added to your team through the draft, or at 8 pm 2 days after MLB debut. Players with MLB experience in the free agent pool can be added anytime. This is all covered in Fantrax, under Other > League Rules Summary

There are times you might have a young green flag player who is eligible to be picked up on waivers and put on your MLB roster. The reason being, they got called up to the MLB for a cup of coffee and have played in a game, then they were sent back down. When you click on the player, there is a drop down tab to the right and tabs that say stats, games etc. Click on the games to see GP MLB. If still not clear, just go to Baseball reference and see if you see any GPs on the MLB club. Again, if a player has zero MLB games, don't claim them off waivers or you will get a waiver wire penatly. Jim allows no errors for newbies since I guess he was not given leeway in some other league..

BTS Community Moderator Posted January 28, 2023 Posted January 28, 2023 So for example, Hoskins would stay on my roster for like 10 years until I drop/trade him even though he’s a free agent next season? Yup. We have no salaries/contracts. The player is yours until you decide to move them.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2023 Posted January 28, 2023 Yup. We have no salaries/contracts. The player is yours until you decide to move them. Ok perfect, thanks
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2023 Posted January 28, 2023 No dumb questions Stang. We want you to have a full understanding of the league so feel free to fire away. I remember when I joined my first dynasty it was a lot to take in at first.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2023 Posted January 28, 2023 The warning not to trust Jim can’t be emphasized enough.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted January 29, 2023 Posted January 29, 2023 So how does this draft usually go? I see it starts 6pm on Feb.17 but how long does it last?
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 29, 2023 Posted January 29, 2023 So how does this draft usually go? I see it starts 6pm on Feb.17 but how long does it last? 4 or 5 days usually you will get a notice each time its your turn to pick its easy
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted January 29, 2023 Posted January 29, 2023 Draft runs like a well oiled machine for the most part. 6 hour windows between picks and windows freeze overnight. Message the next guy who’s up letting him know it’s his turn. There are usually guys good about notifying who’s next to keep it moving like Spanky and Jim
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted January 29, 2023 Posted January 29, 2023 4 or 5 days usually you will get a notice each time its your turn to pick its easy Ok cool, was planning to see Antman that night lol. So I should be fine. BTS had mentioned a draft on the 9th... did he get the dates mixed up or are there 2 different drafts?

BTS Community Moderator Posted January 30, 2023 Posted January 30, 2023 My thing says Feb. 17th I changed it to the 10th a few hours ago. It's still showing the 17th for you?

The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted February 1, 2023 Posted February 1, 2023 Do we need to drop players and clear out spots for the draft picks we intend to use?
