Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2020 Posted July 29, 2020 Yup, pick order is there in the MiLB Drafts tab Did we have trading for picks in '21?
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2020 Posted July 29, 2020 I forgot I dropped Stephenson in this league. That was a decent free prospect to scoop up
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 So literally, not even J/K, the worst performing offensive player on my team so far is some scrub named Christian Yelich.. BUM!! Y'all can expect to seem him on waivers later.. I am just waiting to see if Derek Fisher is still available to claim
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 Yep. Nice try L54, but Clarke Schmidt will have to go to the free-for-all when he debuts or the next draft, whichever comes first. Not to pile on L54, but I'm pretty sure his Tyler Stephenson add was also illegal. Debuted on July 27, added on the 28th.

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 Not criticising, just curious...why would that be illegal? In Fantrax we have no way to automatically send new debutantes to waivers, so in LoD the rule was you can add a player two days at 8 pm ET after they've debuted if no one else has added them, or they get sent to waivers and you can pick them up if no one makes a claim. With all leagues moving to Fantrax, I think we viewed this as a generally good solution to handle it so it was adopted everywhere. Since no one bothered to/noticed that Stephenson debuted and didn't add him to waivers, someone could have added him yesterday but L54 jumped the gun on the add.

I'm not part of LoD, so I'd have done the same thing L54 did. 2 days seems arbitrary. If no one cares enough to put him on waivers, I don't really see what's wrong with adding him a day after his debut. If it's a written rule, then I guess you could've had other people waiting for the clock to run out. Not trying to influence rules in this league, but if this is all fantrax based, it could affect DDL too.

For what it is worth, I was thinking of adding Hatch since ST. I could not since he had not pitched above AA, or 1 MLB appearance (ICR what that rule is here) then I could not add him after his first start last week exactly because of this rule. If we have the rule, I am in agreement we need to follow it.

Two days is arbitrary, but if you're not allowed to add a guy before he makes his debut, there's going to have to be some arbitrary point in which you can add him anyway then right? Otherwise when would it be the right time to add a guy who is debuting? Immediately as the game starts, after his first AB is completed in real-time, right after the game ends? The arbitrary point is exactly two days after their debut at 8 pm ET so that it's consistent for all owners and gives a fair chance for everyone to realize the player is there if the commissioners missed adding the player to waivers. You could argue one day would be enough I guess, but it wouldn't really change anything as it would still be at some arbitrary time to be fair.

I made the DDL rule slightly different - players debuting are fair game at 8 PM the day following their first day on the active roster (they don't have to actually play). I think DDL is different than all the other leagues for this then.

Yes, I am, aware he is available now. My point was I knew based on the rules, since I checked, I could not take him on the 26th, or prior to the 28th after 8 pm, so I did not.

For instance it's easy to know when someone debuts because they'll accrue stats or a GP on their player page which tells you the day in which the debut happened. How do we "know" when someone has been active for a day? Just go off roto reports?

I think the ESPN debuts page shows it even if they did not play http://www.espn.com/mlb/debuts Not sure if box scores anywhere show phantom players but with twitter and stuff it's not hard to confirm active players
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 So It’s good to know the DDL and LOD rules and all (thanks Laila) but was the Stephenson add legit here, or no?

connorp Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 This is a much easier way to get them. Thanks guys
The Bad Guy Verified Member Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 Just curious. If the season gets canceled again. How will we determine draft order for following year?
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 Just curious. If the season gets canceled again. How will we determine draft order for following year? Will be sorted when needed. Some form of random generation using 2019 results, I would expect. Maybe a snake order from round to round.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 Just curious. If the season gets canceled again. How will we determine draft order for following year? Pendleton4life19 get's first overall pick (as per last seasons standings) then a weighted lottery to determine the other 19.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 Pendleton4life19 get's first overall pick (as per last seasons standings) then a weighted lottery to determine the other 19. I can support this if Pendleton4life19 pays for 5 years of Fantrax upgrade.
The Bad Guy Verified Member Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 Shouldn’t it be complete random draw? All 20 teams get 1 equal lottery ball? Rewarding the same team with 2 straight 1st overall picks doesn’t make any logical sense

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 What’s that, like $100 something? You have a lot more money than me and I would do that all day No idea, but I am clearly joking.

Rewarding the same team with 2 straight 1st overall picks doesn’t make any logical sense It might be a random draw for the 10 bottoms in 2019 and 2nd random draw for the top 10. And snake the order so pick 20 gets pick 21. Pick 1 gets pick 40 and 41, etc. A somewhat fair method can be figured out.
