Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 You didn't set your keepers in time... Would it be worth extending the keepers for everyone for 48 hours so P2F can make some trades? We have the time before the start of the draft.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 Did the league come to a decision on Papi? He's not in the database. What's to discuss?
BTS Community Moderator Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 Did the league come to a decision on Papi? Spittin hasn't made an official ruling, but typically a player has to be in the yahoo database for you to keep him. I'd assume no, unless spittin rules otherwise.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 Welcome to P2F, a solid long-time poster.

I'd assume no, unless spittin rules otherwise. It's never came up before. They have to be in the database for them to be drafted. But nothing was ever decided in any league about a keeper being kept. I feel not letting FS keep Ortiz sets a bad precedent. What if some team promotes a good prospect that's in AA the previous year and plans on rostering/keeping them and for some reason Yahoo doesn't have them in the database the next year? Should that team lose their good prospect they were planning on keeping?

But nothing was ever decided in any league about a keeper being kept. You're right. I don't recall anyone ever wanting to use a keeper spot on a retired player.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 I feel not letting FS keep Ortiz sets a bad precedent. How so? We all knew that player was retiring for months and most of us scratched our heads that he would even bother to roll the dice on Ortiz changing his mind. As each day goes by it becomes more and more clear that it will not happen, in fact there's never been any indication that he was even considering it.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 The next time someone wants to keep a player that's not in the database... Yahoo can be stupid. What if someone like Francis Martes wasn't in the database? I'm not saying it's smart to keep Ortiz. The thought didn't even cross my mind in the DDL. But if he wants to keep a player that he owns he should be able to.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 But if he wants to keep a player that he owns he should be able to. This is pretty cut and dry, when your player retires you no longer own him, as no one can.
spittin Verified Member Posted February 13, 2017 Author Posted February 13, 2017 If Frenchsoup feels the need to hold a place for Ortiz he can do so by using a useless player as long as he declares him as the placeholder, it's up to soup to do it I'm not putting any work into it.

That's like giving him an extra roster spot. If you're going to do that then he should be forced to hold that player as long as he claims Ortiz and if he drops that player, he drops his claim also. It's a bad precedent to set IMO.
