King Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Shi Davidi @ShiDavidi 22s23 seconds ago Sources: #BlueJays and INF Darwin Barney have agreement on major-league deal pending physical. yay
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 nice move. Goins/Barney platoon until Travis gets back.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Goins and Barney on the same team with Travis and Tulo doesn't make much sense.
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 I do not find it very likely that this Blue Jays regime appreciates the "talents" of Ryan Goins
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Yeah Goins could be heading to Mr.Preller.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Goins and Barney on the same team with Travis and Tulo doesn't make much sense. My guess is Barney is just here until Travis come back then is waived.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Well, the bench is currently: Goins Barney Thole Saunders Pompey Smoak Someone is getting shipped out eventually.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 I do not find it very likely that this Blue Jays regime appreciates the "talents" of Ryan Goins i really don't think that the "talents" of Darwin Barney are any different. To me, this seems like a lack of confidence in the health of Devon Travis.

BTS Community Moderator Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 My guess is Barney is just here until Travis come back then is waived. It's rare for a team to give out a major league contract to a player they don't plan to keep past the first month of the season.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Yet they're big on Darwin Barney? You can probably get something for Goins, whereas Barney is basically for free and might be better then Goins so why not?
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Yet they're big on Darwin Barney? fairly equivalent talent maybe Goins has more trade value? Harold Reynolds pumped his tires pretty hard in the playoffs, lol. Could be on the move somewhere. I dunno. Whatever.

Maybe they expect Travis to be out longer? Likely league min. anyway. I would think Goins is the better fit to be the backup inf. since he's a LHH.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Goins could be useful as a guy you send back and forth to AAA depending on the health of Travis. Carrying him and Barney while Tulo and Travis are healthy would be silly, but having both in the org would be good for depth.

I was loving every second of Harold talk him up knowing 29 other GM's were watching.

vilifyingforce Verified Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 You can probably get something for Goins, whereas Barney is basically for free and might be better then Goins so why not? I doubt Goins has any useful value that would help the team more then playing while Travis is injured.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 I don't mind this. I assume it's close to the minimum. Goins last year had a 92 wRC+ versus righties, and Barney has a career 92 wRC+ versus lefties. Both play great defense. There's definitely some value if platooned, especially since Travis is probably out for the first month or two, and Tulo has a pretty crappy injury history himself.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 How is Barney regarded at SS? He really hasn't had any significant playing time there. Is his arm good enough to be above average there?
Nafro Verified Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Yeah Goins could be heading to Mr.Preller. Goins, Revere and Hutch for Tyson Ross and Hunter Renfroe...

Great point, forgot Gogo batted left.
