BTS Community Moderator Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Zolecki tweets there's a fourth player involved. If the other player is pretty inconsequential I like it for Houston. The odds of Velasquez being as good as Giles are pretty small, and a back-end soft-tosser + non top-100 prospect is a pretty fair price for the sure thing IMO.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Velasquez, Oberholtzer, and Fisher for Giles. Wtf? Awful deal for the Astros.

Velasquez showed real promise as a starter last season. I don't get why the Astros soured on him.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Velasquez showed real promise as a starter last season. I don't get why the Astros soured on him. Looks like they never really saw him as a starter. Two-pitch pitcher that they haven't trusted with a big workload.
Followthelight Verified Member Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Do they all get together and get hookers and do Blow after the meetings?
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Lawrie to the White Sox! Donaldson trade looking worse for them now.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Wtf? Awful deal for the Astros. Yeah I would of moved Osuna for that package in a heartbeat.

Nothing of crazy significance given up, imo. Seems totally worth it for Houston.

Followthelight Verified Member Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Only Stewart. That explains a lot. Must have been on a huge bender when he made the trade.
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Looks like they never really saw him as a starter. Two-pitch pitcher that they haven't trusted with a big workload. Had terrific numbers as a starter in the minors. Still think he has promise as a starter. Which works for me since I own him in the bbdl.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 ^^^ Owns Velasquez in LOD I'm actually excited about this deal because Velasquez should get the opportunity to start in Philly. Am I wrong though? Maybe the Astros don't buy into his durability but scouts seemed to like VV and his numbers as a starter in the MLB rivaled those of McCullers, who(m?) the Astros are much higher on.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 I hope he ends up in middle relief.

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Fwiw, AdamGreenwood, who is excellent at recognizing breakout players, likes Velasquez quite a bit. 'Nuff said
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 I think it's a crummy trade for Houston, great one for Philly. Velazquez is probably a back end reliever if they plop him in the pen right now. Likely not quite as good as Giles, but still solid. Fisher is a toolshed with plus raw, plus speed, and some demonstrated OBP skeez. Oberholtzer might not be great but he has 5 years of control left and was solid in 2014. This is like Osuna + Alford + for a closer. C'mon
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 But how good of a prospect can he be after so many years playing basketball?
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Whats with all the love for Heyward around here. Is the upgrade over Pillar/Pompey worth a $200M contract? Holy f***

Laika Community Moderator Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Vince Velasquez is good right now. I'd rather have him than Giles. Maybe even for 2016.
