Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 No it really isn't. Victims of domestic abuse lie to protect their assaulter all the time and not necessarily because there's "a complex web". For confirmation of such just talk to basically any social worker. That's exactly what I said. She made a decision of her own accord not to press charges. This could be for any number of reasons, including helping her children and family. She shouldn't be the one being punished in that incident. You clearly insinuated that she was dropping the charges because of threats. That isn't the same thing. It's an entirely more complicated and serious allegation.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 Reyes's career being over has more to do with him being a s***** baseball player than the DV situation though. If this was a decent player he would be signed in a day. Reyes is a below avg bat who's defence is so bad that he can't play SS anymore.

You said it was reasonable to assume she's not being threatened and I said it wasn't reasonable to make an assumption about that either way and I stand by that.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 If she got assaulted by him but doesn't want to say anything about it then Reyes should still deserved to be punished. Just because someone doesn't prosecute you in the court of law doesn't mean he didn't assault the victim. I like to put myself in the woman's shoes. If my wife got mad at me in an argument and hit me, I wouldn't want her to go to jail and have my children grow up without a mother. I'd probably prefer to deal with it in another way (counselling, separation, etc.). Of course, this is just what I would do and if people want to press charges then so be it, but I'm sure some others (maybe even Mrs. Reyes) share my opinion. Ignoring the wishes of the victim and punishing her as well does nothing to advance justice in my opinion.

What if she was a lot stronger than you and bigger than you and grabbed you by your throat and slammed you in to a glass door? You're so scared you call the police and get sent to the hospital with cuts & bruises. You'd want your children around that monster? f*** that mom

Why would you just throw a criminal threatening charge out there when there is no reason to do so? There hasn't been the slightest hint of those sorts of actions from Jose Reyes. Maybe he's involved in the Panama papers too, but it's unfair to assign additional unrelated crimes to a person for no apparent reason.

Now she's going to AA and I want to help. All I'm saying is that we should respect the rights of the victim if there are no obvious suspicions of threats or future violence.

The fact that you object to my statement shows that you suspect he may be threatening her. You wouldn't bring it up otherwise. I just don't think it's right to make unsubstantiated claims. You're engaging in libel and taking cheap shots at him. 'Kingkat could be a serial killer. I have no evidence, so I won't assume either way. I'll just make the accusation in a roundabout way so I can backpedal when I'm called out for being a dumbass.'

C'mon man... security called about the incident in the lobby, they saw, everyone saw, cash eliminated everything. She had ligature around her neck and contusions around her face/melon, it happened.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 He'll be eligible to play once they lay the suspension down, he's served 32 + games, it's the end of it.

Chapman never left a mark on his girl, but he shot up his garage and took his suspension, this s*** happens man.(She likely pissed her pants though)

If you're not comfortable blanketly assuming he didn't do it than it doesn't make sense to blanketly assume he didn't threaten violence either. Heck, you could easily say that the violence in and of itself creates the threat of further violence. There's no real leap here.

What I object to is dumbasses like Kingkat taking things further and basically making up stuff about him.
