Seems like the other thread is more so about why AA left. Lets make this thread about what to expect from the new head honcho of the Toronto Blue Jays, Mark Shapiro.

Whats his philosophy? What can we expect from him?

Shapiro joined the Indians broadcast team during their last game and had a few interesting comments that might provide us hints:

Shapiro on David Price / free agents: "Free agency is usually a losing proposal. Over the long-term you're going to lose out."

"I miss baseball operations side, this opportunity (in TO) will give me the ability to get more involved in a way that I feel good about"

"There are issues that need to be dealt with regards to both baseball and business side where I can make an impact"baseball organization in terms of player development"

These quotes were taken from Eric Viola’s twitter feed.

Sounds like he feels similar to AA regarding Free Agency. It's a small market mentality. Not saying it's not true...but if you only makes moves based on long term value, you're shorthanding yourself.

The key is to pick your spots. St. Louis doesn't rely on the market, but did go to it to buy Holliday and Peralta. AA actually did a really nice job too, making calculated splashes on Martin and Cabrera.

A healthy aversion to paying free agent price tags is a positive thing as long as there's enough flexibility to jump on the odd big-money deal that makes sense.

We can expect Price to be gone 100%. Also, we will definitely be losing one of Bautista/Edwin by the end of 2016.

These are good things.

I never expected Price to resign. And I expect one of Edwin and Bats to be gone as well. I guess it all depends on how he leverages it. Is Price replaced with another legit stud starter? There's a huge drop after Stro...they really can't go in to next year like that I don't think. Also, does he have enough foresight to deal one or both (EE/JB) and max their value or does he let them walk and take a pick.

So Shapiro doesn't want long-term free agents.

Nor does he want us to trade blue chippers for premium players.

How does he expect us to compete past 2016?

100% into drafting? Trading away our premium, short-term players for quality prospects?

This does not bode well.

So like what the mets did?

The Mets and Jays are in similar positions. Average/s*** for several years and then finally made it.

The Mets can keep going while it seems Shapiro wants to go back to old ways.

Is that Stroman in a Yankees jersey? Ban this man! Thats inexcusable.

I'm not ready to panic yet but I really like AA as our GM. Some bad moves in there over the years but I think he was steadily improving. AA seemed relentless when there was a player he wanted.

I liked AA but he hasn't exactly built a sustainable winning environment here. He's made the playoffs once and had to trade the majority of our prospect capital to do it.

Based on what I've read about Shapiro, he wasn't well liked by the Cleveland fan base as they felt like he traded away players far too often.

Tends to happen when you have no money.

How about actually providing some worthy analysis for once?

theres time for that and there's also time for lazy responses. Go look at my post history to find the analysis. If you're lazy, too bad.

Seems to me that it would be pretty natural for Shapiro to sell himself to Rogers on his ability to compete with a small payroll.

We were talking an increase in payroll. I think there is a possibility of a decrease now

Doubt it. Just by changing the ticket pricing structure and getting more corporate sponsor money will bring in an additional $60 million per year. He's going to be making a lot more money for the team so payroll should go up.

We might see implementation of dynamic ticket pricing. I wonder how that'll play in terms of flex pack holders.

I'm not too lazy, I just know that it's basically non-existent.

So in other words, we should expect a good 30% of home games marked up to postseason prices. Super.

If they were smart they would change it to make flex packs include some of the s***** games so you can't just get all the premium games like you can now.

Hopefully they keep the current structure for at least the next season. the 20 ticket pack is the biggest steal in sports lol.

Yup. Its this way with all 29 other teams so Blue Jays fans were getting a massive break with dinosaur Beeston in control. I have season tickets next year so I'm interested to see how it works.

A massive overhaul of the system is needed but with so many things to do I wonder if they will keep the current system for next season.
