I'd like to see Leake & Latos inked.

Not upper echelon guys, not guys that could almost be done like Lackey. Guys who are still fairly young.

And yes the Jays should give Estrada a QO

I shudder at the thought of Leake tossing up sub 90 fastballs and not striking anyone out in the American League.

Hmm I was under the impression that he'd be looking for 5+ because of how young he his, but I guess he'd wanna be a free agent by age 30. Still $13M for a glass player? He sounds intriguing but i just can't look past his injury history, especially when he's going to be getting paid as much as a solid starter with limited injury history. We'll see how FA pans out I guess, AA was interested in Brett Anderson before (wanted to deal Yuni to the A's a few summers ago)

I think AA will lean on the side of caution when it comes to pitchers made of glass. He's taken chances on guys like Brandon Morrow and Josh Johnson before. Doubt AA would want to give Brett Anderson anything more than 2 years. I'd be quite hesitant with giving him anything more than that due to his injury history.

Oh, do they play a different game in the NL?

Who's the solid starter with no injury history that you get for that price? I'd rather take the chance on talent than bring in a mediocre guy, but that's more of a philosophical decision.

And another thing on Lackey, are we gonna overpay big? It's likely his last contract, just turned 37. What's the driving interest for him to wanna sign with the Jays?

There's a name I haven't seen in a long time! What's up gibbers!

I agree with what you said say tho, I think Latos might come here for cheap and he'd be a nice addition, QO to Estrada and avoid Lackey.

One quick side question for you guys, how much do you guys see Colon getting? I think the Mets will part ways with him and he might come through on a 1 year deal if he knows he has a chance on a ring.

Darren O'Day is a FA and would be a perfect late inning reliever for this club. I know Jose and him had some beefs in the past, which could be a roadblock in signing him. Worth 1.8 WAR and had a 11.80 K/9 last season.

He'll command big bucks. I'm guessing something like 3/30

Latos is an option. He's been banged up a couple of times but he's put up nearly or over 200 innings in 4 of his last 6 seasons. Then again I'm just going off stats, i haven't seen him pitch this season or much of the last season

Seriously? No way I'd pay $10M AAV to an aging reliever.

Man, I thought Latos had a nightmare season given how he was handled by the Dodgers, but he was actually decent in every DIPS metric and his velocity bounced back a bit from 2014.

He's hideous and ugly but... would be a good buy-low. I guess.

He'd be great as your no. 6 backup starter & depth in Buffalo a'la Wolfe/Doubront. Doubt he wants that however given his personality.

Probably more like Gregerson's 3/$18.

Someone posted about him having attitude problems. I'm not sure if that's true or not, but I think he'll be fine in the clubhouse here. Cincy's clubhouse environment seems really bad (Phillips has said made stupid comments about Votto and his salary many times over). Between that, him having a 'bad' season last year, and AA's past interest it's hard not to think that we'll be going after him hard.

Good comp. I'd be comfortable giving O'Day that type of deal.

But he got that in Texas where their taxes are nicer. Not sure what the comp here (Toronto) would be. :/

Teams usually regret signing a pitcher for big dollars before they know if he can perform in the AL. The the only ones over 25 mil in the last 10 years I can find in MLBTR's transaction tracker:

Ricky Nolasco

Ryan Dempster

Vicente Padilla

It's so obvious that it's a stupid thing to do, that most teams avoid it like the plague.

Latos is a dirtbag that has burned bridges everywhere he's pitched.

Do you realize that Brett Anderson throws softer than Mike Leake and has a similar strikeout profile? You're contradicting yourself here.

Brett Anderson 5.79 K/9

Mike Leake 5.58 K/9

I'd rather take the bulk innings Leake provides over Brett Anderson.

Latos has had behavioural problems that go back to his time in the minors and even prior to being drafted.

Here's the blurb from the MLB draft tracker from 2006

"Good stuff and size has been offset with some concerns over immaturity on the mound. Fastball has hit 98 and inconsistent curve has a chance to be a plus pitch."

Yeah, because 90.9 vs 90.7 is such a huge difference.

You should be made aware that the average left hander throws 3 MPH softer than the average right hander. Anderson has had success in the AL with the same velocity and same peripherals so there's a lot less risk in that regard.

He made 4.25m this year. He's getting nothing close to what he made this year after doing what he's done the past 4 years

True, though he's 33 and hasn't been a closer (I know that it doesn't mean anything on how valuable he is, though it means something on the free agent market). I could see him getting around $7-8 million at most. A 3 year deal worth $22 million is what I think he ends up getting.

Are you sure you linked the right article? He seems like a honest guy who, like Tulo, harsh idea of business in baseball because of past experiences with GMs (Traded 8 days after being told he was staying and never being called was a dick move by Byrnes). Also seems like he wants people off electronics and cheering the team on... which is what you're supposed to do (I thought there as a ban on cellphones during the game for ballplayers?). He didn't come off as a dick in this particular interview, just overly honest maybe. Even spoke great levels about his teammates in Cincy.

I wouldn't mind signing him to the 3/39 deal you mentioned either to be honest

Hmm interesting. Still wouldn't mind taking a shot with him over here. I have a feeling he'd fit in well here. I mean look at Bautista and JD, If they weren't on our teams we'd think they're self-centred, arrogant, pricks (some people think that as Jays fans too) but they mesh really well here.

Is there any chance that he pitches a full year? Like any?
