4thOFan Verified Member Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 As Price said, "IF you don't like it, pitch better" Now that's hilarious considering Price was crying about Ortiz admiring his two home runs he hit off him in the 2013 ALDS.
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 I love Bautista, his drive, the fire he plays with and of course the big homers. Even though he's probably my favourite Blue Jay, for some reason I can't seem to dislike Holland. In that interview, he sounded genuine. I understand that others wont like his 'antics', hell I wouldn't like getting shown up like that. Some will say, forget about it and pitch better and I agree; still though, I wouldn't take kindly to opposing players staring me down and flipping bats. Joey Bats still king tho. Agree. I like Holland, he seems like a funny and honest guy. His Schwarzenegger impressions were pretty good.

Flashman Verified Member Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 Holland has a conservative view of baseball - cool professionalism, respect, no theatrics. He's not wrong. But nor is the more exuberant culture that likes to show passion in baseball. It's an individual matter, and the only daft idea is that there's just one way to play the game.

I guess you missed the wiping his ass with a Jay's fan towel incident.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 I guess you missed the wiping his ass with a Jay's fan towel incident. Jeeze man, I wish Jays fans would give this a rest. Like the lamest "gotcha!" of all time.
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 Maybe he adopted his new philosophy after Ortiz. Yeah, would be good if he could stay consistent on these things. I get that you got to back your teammate, but he didn't have to be quite so dismissive of Holland.

I don't think the point here is that Holland did anything wrong. He didn't. The larger point is that it's a bit odd for him to be an advocate for a more buttoned down baseball culture since that's not how he approaches the game at all.

People certainly seem to be feigning outrage by the truckload, but maybe just me. I feel like him screwing around with drunk idiot fans who are heckling him is not even a footnote on his position. If he doesn't like Bautista, that's his prerogative. I don't agree that Bautista's batflip was overkill and think he and the Rangers are giant pussies in that they are still talking about it, but him imitating wiping his ass with a towel has absolutely no bearing on that.

Well if you want to blame anyone for the outrage over the towel, blame Zaun. He was the one who brought it up like it was a bid geal without providing any context or details. For awhile I thought Holland had literally wiped himself.

Boxy's dumn, if he thinks the Jays players never saw that and wanted to tear him a new one, he's very wrong. All in good fun, thanks Holland.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 Has Holland ever fist pumped after a big strikeout? Pretty sure he said in this article he has. His annoyance was not as much the bat flip as the reactions to every pitch from the OF, Dugout, Batters box, base path etc.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 Can't disagree with anything Holland said, really. If Jose was on any other team I'd feel the same way. He complains about EVERYTHING.
