Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 Liam Hendricks should be a starter next year. He looked awesome
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 Pretty sure he didn't throw 98 as a starter. Make him the closer.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 Liam Hendricks should be a starter next year. He looked awesome The thought crossed my mind as well. He was still effective in his last inning. There's no way his velocity spike is just due to being in the bullpen. There was an excellent article by Capital Jays explaining that basically his spike was too dramatic to be explained so simply and today's performance supports that. http://capitaljays.com/2015/09/29/liam-hendriks-unparalleled-velocity-spike/
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2015 Author Posted October 21, 2015 Pretty sure he didn't throw 98 as a starter. Make him the closer. He was sitting 94 the entire 4 innings plus he has a plus pitch in that cutter and a nice breaking ball.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 Liam Hendriks should not be a starter again. Liam Hendriks thrived out of the bullpen. He is a legitimate back end option for next year's squad.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 Pretty sure he didn't throw 98 as a starter. No but he won't go back to 91 or whatever he pitched before either. There's no way he's merely the relief version of that guy. He's gotten a lot stronger somehow.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 I was thinking the same thing. Dude is effective as f***

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 Dudes movement is awesome I told my wife that's our best reliever right there p

Stopped watching once they brought Tepera in though. f*** that s***. If we were the Atlanta Braves then sure, let's see what we've got. If the Jays are planning on competing next year I don't think you give 150 innings to Liam Hendriks and hope that he's better than the >4.00 SIERA guy he was in the past. I'd much rather turn Osuna into a starter than Hendriks.

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 What does one have to do with the other? Osuna and Hendiks should both start and Cecil shoukyd close. The fact that one will be 21 and one will be 27?
glory Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 Gibbons doesn't trust Hendriks as a reliever so starting him might actually mean he'll get used next season. I think the "Hendriks traded to LA for PTBNL" is a strong possibility though, especially if Gibbons has an impact on roster decisions as rumored (Valencia).

Only thing anyone is saying is that he showed today why he's worth a second look. He throws much harder than he did last time it was tried and he showed today that he can sustain that velocity. It would be dumb to set anything in stone but I think it's more than worth considering. He's not just better as a reliever. He's a better pitcher period.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 Could you imagine this rotation? Stroman Dickey Hendriks Osuna Hutch Good luck not finishing 4th in the AL East with that.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2015 Author Posted October 21, 2015 The fact that one will be 21 and one will be 27? Again I don't follow your logic?

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 No he should remain in the pen. He just needs to be used. The only postive from today's game is that its over.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2015 Author Posted October 21, 2015 Math is hard? In the words of the great spanky K!

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 This team should not be looking for reclamation projects to eat innings in 2016. This team will be in dire need of quality innings with the departures of Price, Buehrle and Estrada. If they feel the need to give Liam Hendriks a rotation spot then I would fully endorse the trades of both Bautista and Edwin. There are many guys to target on the FA market this offseason. No need to fix something that isn't broke. Hendriks Cecil Lowe Sanchez is the makings of a very sturdy back end. Something this team could utilize as a strength for once heading into the season.
King Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 Hendriks is awesome. But Gibby does not think of him as anymore of a mop up man in the back end of the bullpen. It's absurd. I would leave him as a reliever and let him flourish, however converting him back to a SP might be interesting? Does anyone know if he has any options for next year?
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 Hendriks? Starter? Uh he throws that high because he knows he's usually in for an inning or two. Throw him in the rotation and he'll purposely take off his fastball to try and go deep in the game

fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 How many innings did he throw today? A season high. He did it once this season, today, in a crucial spot. He doesn't throw this many innings every 5 days
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
