BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 did Burly show enough tonight for the post season roster he has to be on it, IMO Mad respect for Papa B, but not a chance I'm afraid.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 Mad respect for Papa B, but not a chance I'm afraid. I think he'll be the final bullpen guy. Last resort arm + maybe can matchup against certain lefties.
Candy Maldonado Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 This was a rare enjoyable GDT. Thanks folks. It only took 160 games to get it right.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 Mad respect for Papa B, but not a chance I'm afraid. You may be right. But, out of the bullpen following Price or Stroman he would be tough. Like a complete 180 to batters.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 He was as bad as I've seen him missing spots and his V, such as it is, is down. I wish it were different. You could almost say same about throwing Francis in there after those two. Doesn't mean they won't hit them.
Nabru Verified Member Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 Wait, why again did you not accept a mod position? Pretty sure you've been spending MORE time here since then haha Think everyone agreed you would of done a good job I voted for him.

They've said they're only bringing 11 pitchers. And that spot seems up for grabs. They've been using Loup, but, only for one batter quite often. Schultz, Tepera, Delabar all scare me much more then Loup.

Price Stroman Dickey Estrada Osuna Cecil Lowe Sanchez Hendricks Buehrle Remaining spots should be filled with backup INF and OF to allow more pinch hitting and running opportunities.

Not a chance Hawkins is off the roster dude. It will likely be 11 pitchers, with Buerhle in as the 7th BP arm.

Replace Buehrle with Hawkins and that'll be the pen I would bet. If you bring 1 more pitcher bring Loup as a 2nd lefty. If they don't want Loup I'd bring Pompey/Hague. I like having an extra couple position players to PH/PR.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 Hawkins should not be on the playoff roster. He's been s*** every outing for the last month.
EMK19 Verified Member Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 I personally can't see Buehrle coming off the pen. If he pitches at all I would think it would be as long relief, and as long relief Hendriks is a better choice. Buehrle doesn't have that much experience coming out of the bullpen, and is not much use vs. Lefties either since I believe he actually has reverse splits this year. I just can't see it being effective at all.
Nabru Verified Member Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 If Hendriks is used for long relief/mop up duty instead of high leverage, that's 1 dumb step closer to hurting your chances in the postseason.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 Hawkins should not be on the playoff roster. He's been s*** every outing for the last month. Not every outing, but many of them. Making those last outs against the O's should not have been that tough. I say take Buehrle. Should the worst happen and mop-up duties become necessary I absolutely don't want to burn our top relievers patching a game together.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 If Hendriks is used for long relief/mop up duty instead of high leverage, that's 1 dumb step closer to hurting your chances in the postseason. Hendriks hasn't been very good recently. It should primarily be Lowe-Cecil-Osuna. They can pitch pretty much every game with the off days.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 Hendriks hasn't been very good? Tell me that my pro-Hendriks bias isn't deceiving me. I've seen nearly every game lately and I haven't noted him being particularly shaky.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 How so? Hendriks has been great all season long. In September he had 13 strikeouts and 1 walk in 10 innings. Hawkins too. He has a 79 xFIP- on the season, 80 with the Blue Jays. Good ERA if you're into that as well. They both haven't been great recently. There current roles are fine. I'm not the one who said Hawkins won't be or shouldn't be on the post season roster. I'm fine with it as long as he isn't used in high leverage situations. I'm fine with Hendriks in high leverage role if needed.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 here is pillars catch last night He's becoming Brett Gardner with a better arm. Even though, I'd trade high on him in the offseason. This may be his peak trade value.

intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 I'm not really sure the return for Pillar would be worth giving him up, unless of course he's packaged up with someone more desirable to another club. He fills a precise need for the Jays wonderfully.
500LevelSTH Verified Member Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 Dalton is an excellent 4th OF next season. And if Pillar fades you have options. Besides another year of spot duty will not hurt him, JB is getting up there. Patience people, three nothing wrong with depth and the Jays have this is spades.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 I never understand your south park gifs You apparently missed where I explained this. They are not meant as anything. Some have added meaning but most are just funny and I post because I started after we won a game, so I figured I might as well keep it going when we win.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 when does defense usually start declining? I thought Pillar was younger but I checked and he's already 26.

All PEDS aside, early 30's would be a reasonable age of regression, but in Pillars case, he may be short lived as diving on a concrete slab, covered in fake grass will probably shorten his career. One bad landing for superman may trigger a host of problems with hitting and fielding. Right now he makes many fans wanting to watch the Jays and also start comparing him with Devo.
