SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted June 12, 2017 Posted June 12, 2017 What's weird is that I thought Smoak would have a monster season in 2016. He didn't, and then they signed him to what I thought was a bloated deal for someone marginal for 2017 and beyond. No I am excited we have an option for 2019. Sweet. Buck and Pat always say he is great defensively, but his fangraphs metrics seem below average. Who's right? He doesn't appear to be bad defensively to my eye. But I am in IT, I am not a GM. Anyway, it is sweet to see him excelling like he has. I like Smoak. I don't know for sure, but it seems like there is a pretty large group of former high draft picks who bust but then figure it out around 30-years old. Which flies in the face of the "29 then decline" mantra in baseball regarding offence.
