then i thought about it

 

this f***er actually won a CY YOUNG, 3 years ago and is using pretty much the same peripherals

he actually is capable of reaching back and delivering good starts and shouldnt be attributed to luck

hes earned the right to have bad starts by track record alone

2012: 24.8 K% 5.8 BB% 3.25 SIERA

2015: 14.8 K% 8.1 BB% 4.75 SIERA

 

Of course Dickey will outperform his peripherals cause he's a knuckleballer and a great fielding pitcher. But there is no way his peripherals are anywhere close to his 2012 season.

A lot of it has to do with his velocity IMO... he had more velo when he was with the Mets. The added velocity gives him better control and more K's... he's had 1-2 more mph in his last 7 or so starts, and in those starts he's not walking anyone and not giving up many HRs.

Yes. More of the pitches are catching corners of the plate or just outside. Earlier in the year and last year he was mkissing the plate by too much too often. Guys would take way more pitches. Now they can't do that so much.
