If the biggest need is someone to moderate the GDTs than I'm probably not a good choice. I barely participate in those. OrgFiller, Deadpool and Vdub (amongst others) all seem to be much more present in those and would make excellent mods.

No offense, but you should really stop posting ITT. Half of the mod nominations would ban you 10 posts into the next GDT.

I should be considered as a mod. I love baseball, the Jays, casuals and advanced stats. Though the most important trait is not baseball related and that is I am not emotionally vested into this forum or the regulars that post. That would make for an appropriate, unbiased arbitrator at bluejaysmessageboard.com

There needs to be actual well-defined policies that the moderators are tasked with enforcing. The moderators should be swift with that moderation and not argue in the threads about it, instead just direct the user to the list of board policies.

 

Many of the so-called trolls continue to troll because they're given leeway after creating new accounts and get a rise out of the moderator and userbase every time they are banned. If they were swiftly deleted every time without generating a visibly angry response from the board or from moderators in PM (or ban messages), they'd eventually give up.

 

In addition to clear trolls, posters who spam irrationally negative posts on a regular basis should not be tolerated. These posts kill threads and discussions rather than foster them. If a post is irrationally negative but doesn't really warrant a ban, I'd be in favour of mods just silently deleting it. Keep threads on-topic and rational.

 

Keeping the board organized is a similarly important and related issue. I'd be in favour of adding several mods, perhaps some who have specific tasks like merging threads, renaming threads, starting important threads, etc.

Huh? For what? That makes zero sense. I don't do or say anything that deserves banning. ....tolerance is woefully low on this board for different opinions.

I think any use of the words Mods, Troll and MJ should get you warned or a 24 hr suspension automatically!

 

Just a start but it would go a long way towards cleaning and resolving some of the mess of late in threads!

The constant attacking of posters, calling for bans and calling every comment trolling is what derails GDT'S. Just ignore and let mods deal with it warn the user if they don't stop give a day banning etc... 3 strikes your out. This is the only forum I've seen this is not the normal practice.

This is where having extra moderators would come in. Such posts could be deleted very quickly if there are always multiple mods online. You need posters who make irrationally negative posts (which includes a sizable number of generally good posters) to realize that such posts aren't wanted here and will be removed. They'll learn the lesson pretty quickly if the moderation is done properly.

 

Since there is likely a surplus of qualified and willing potential moderators, I think the issue can be rectified.

Yeah it's better to have way too many mods than too few. Adding 5-10 guys (and ladies @vdub!!) would be a good idea.

People should be allowed to be negative within reason. The fact that some seem to want to ban that is scary.
