Leonard15 Verified Member Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 Lets say the Jays don't catch the Yankees for the East but enter postseason as wildcard team then how great are your chances of winning the AL. I know KC did it last year but I think that was the exception to the norm as playing game 163 and assuming they win that game I don't know if they will have anything left to get them past the next round as they might have a gassed David Price and not be able to use him until game 3 down 0-2 in a best of 5.

To the rule* and how does playing 1 extra game tire out an entire team?
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 Doesn't really matter. You have to win that WC game and go from there. Once you make it into the post-season, anything can happen and that's exactly what you saw with the Royals. Trying to understand how to make the WS is a difficult exercise to execute. Baseball players and fans themselves are better off focusing on winning each day, as opposed to looking ahead multiple games in advance.

thatoneguy Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 Can we stop with these casual fan threads?
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 Can we stop with these casual fan threads? When casual fans show up on this board, we know the team is doing well. I'm super okay with that.

I guess I should be ok with it since, as you said, it obviously means they're playing great baseball, but honestly I'm pretty annoyed with the bandwagoners buying up the tickets and leaving me to look at stubhub where 500 level seats are like $50. And no, I won't give in and buy those.

IronLadle Verified Member Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 I hate the one game playoff anything can happen, but Stroman might be back as well which probably makes the Jays the best team on paper.

(Unfortunately, my company is the official movers of the Leafs/Raptors/TFC but NOT the Jays, so we don't get free Jays tickets... BOO)
WillyWonka Verified Member Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 6.25% 4 coin flips? I'd say the odds are a bit higher than that....the Jays are arguably the best team in baseball right now on paper and their pythagorean wpct is over .600....easily the best in the AL. Based on the pythagorean wpct this team is better than it was in 1992 and 1993....and that barely factors in the impact of the players we got at the trade deadline. Even then, it's probably about 10%, sadly. Best thing to hope for is a division win, and then the wild card team somehow beats out KC. Fangraphs has the odds of a WS championship pegged at 9.2% right now http://www.fangraphs.com/coolstandings.aspx

ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 (edited) So I gather the playoffs will be easy to make since we're making WS plans? Edited August 8, 2015 by ElNik2013

"Thatoneguy" lol this has to be a parody account or something. 10/10. Fans are great; without casual fan interest, we do not have enough money to sign expensive players.
