Laika Community Moderator Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Dickey will be 41 next year. Wouldn't you rather put that 12 million towards a guy like Mike Leake or Gallardo? Kazmir or Iwakuma? I'm not drinking the Dickey kool-aid. Don't want him back next year. I think he's a ticking time-bomb. All of those guys should get multi year deals, and some of them for a lot of money. The fact that Dickey is only a 1 year commitment is a luxury. It would be silly to turn down his option just so you can commit 4 or 5 years to a similar but slightly inferior talent like Leake. I love Kuma but since he's a Jap, I doubt he'll leave the West coast. Kazmir will get big money like Ervin Santana (maybe more). Gallardo is a real time bomb, and his peripherals are garbage this year.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Yeah. Things looked pretty dicey in the first few months, but Dickey will once again come in at better than 2 wins not counting the Dickey effect. $12M on a 1-year commitment is looking more and more like a no-brainer. the top guys in next years market are going to be getting contracts that the jays WONT pay. top tier guys are getting 7 years AAV 25M. unless Rogers suddenly goes nuts which I doubt would happen. On a plus though, attendance has been very good lately and if we make the playoffs this year it will end up being VERY good. They might free up some more cash but it wont be 150M deals
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 I have to think Seattle would have traded Iwakuma if they thought he wouldn't resign with them. I'd love to see him here though.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Picking up Dickey option is a no brainer. Don't expect MB back and he would want similar money that he is making now, and have to consider Martin's backloaded contract. Stroman, Dickey, Hutch, Osuna/Sanchez, FA starter, with the usual scrubs for depth Would be nice to stretch out Osuna....

ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 They have to sign a FA SP especially after trading 2 guys (Norris and Boyd) who would've been either in the rotation or depth. Arguably, Hoffman and Castro could've been depth as well if they started the year in NH although this is probably a stretch. Anyway...
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Uhhhh... Wut Dickey has a 3.99 ERA as a Blue Jay, in almost 3 years. Leake has a career 4.17 FIP and 3.86 ERA in the NL. He's probably a ~4.20 ERA guy in the AL East. Maybe worse. I'd take Dickey over Leake in 2016. But, there are other ways to cut the stats to suit other arguments and I will acknowledge that.
Trouba95 Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Do we have enough on the farm for Quintana? And would the CHI Sox have any desire to trade him in the off season?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Wonder if the White Sox would do Pompey + Sanchez + Pentecost for Quintana or something dumn cause they do happen to be the White Sox and all.
BTS Community Moderator Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Do we have enough on the farm for Quintana? And would the CHI Sox have any desire to trade him in the off season? It's really hard to see why they'd have any interest in moving him. You'd have a hard time arguing that he's not a top-30 starter in the game, and he's only 26, signed through 2020 on a team-friendly deal, and has no history of arm/shoulder trouble. Guy is a horse. Guys like that don't really get moved for prospects.
BTS Community Moderator Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 BTS OWNS HIM IN FANTASY LEAGUES fyi Is anything I said wrong?

The man could literally move a mountain and it would be a less impressive feat than moving Wells' contract or acquiring Josh Donaldson.

Wasn't there a report that Reagins or whoever the Angels' GM was got forced into acquiring Wells by ownership?
BTS Community Moderator Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Wasn't there a report that Reagins or whoever the Angels' GM was got forced into acquiring Wells by ownership? Yeah. But the ultimate insult was getting him to give up two years of Mike Napoli for the privilege.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Yeah. But the ultimate insult was getting him to give up two years of Mike Napoli for the privilege. Then gave him away for Frank Francisco cause we had JPA
BTS Community Moderator Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Then gave him away for Frank Francisco cause we had JPA That was really dumn
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 That was really dumn Rays wouldn't have made that mistake.
BTS Community Moderator Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Rays wouldn't have made that mistake. Not likely, no.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Nah. The Rays never would've been in that situation in the first place. It would've involved extending a franchise player.
BTS Community Moderator Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Making fun of the Rays' budget is like heckling at the special olympics.

BTS Community Moderator Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Longoria suxxxxxxxxxxx Your dumn. No wonder you suck at the fantasy beisbol
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 It's lucky that the Angels and Dodgers routinely make such stupid baseball decisions. Otherwise, their budgets would destroy everyone. I am a little concerned with Zaidi running things with the Dodgers now though. They're snapping up every Cuban available. They're going to have a dynasty.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Your dumn. No wonder you suck at the fantasy beisbol i'm first in my BBDL division but it's pretty mediocre with guys like JFaS and King

Fair enough. Leake will also cost more than Dickey. The main thing is that I personally don't trust Dickey to keep pitching like he is now. But its ultimately up to AA and what he thinks.
