It's Chris Colabello we're talking about. Of the thousands and thousands of players in professional affiliated baseball he's probably like bottom 1% in terms of outfield defense. The fact that Gibby keeps throwing him out there to make a fool of himself doesn't add to his value.

Great. So maybe if Gibby threw Smoak into left field on a regular basis, you'd be under the impression that Smoak is a terrible player.

I'd be under the impression that his contributions to the team have been terrible. Like Colabello this year. It's not his fault he's being miscast as an OF, but he is bleeding runs out there and you wouldn't expect the bat to play at 1st or DH.

I think everyone is overreacting a tad to the Valencia DFA. I don't see it as a Valencia vs Colabello move, I think when Travis went down they just preferred a better defensive player to back up SS/2B and platooning Cola with Smoak at 1B is not a bad option. Cola can also hit Lefties or Righties when needed as a bench bat. With Revere here now and Pompey likely soon do we need Valencia to play LF if we can get some cash for him, I don't like him at 2B.

I kept reading on other boards that with the Twins/Royals he was considered somewhat of a 'cancer' but I could never find anything concrete.

The things it would become worse for lose playing time for Revere.

IF true that makes more sense then. It was odd when I first heard it based on how well DV has hit, but this would make it more clear.
