CrackerJack Verified Member Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 Nah, he's still a moron. AA just dummy proofed the roster. Even Gibbons can't mess this s*** up. with each passing beautiful day, Gibbons becomes more and more entrenched as Blue Jays skipper ... Enjoy the bittersweet ride!
Pizzapops Verified Member Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 Cito was amazing in the early 90s. I remember how pumped I was when the Jays re-hired him. It was basically like re-hiring a World Series. But then we saw that Cito was insane. He was insane, yet managed to be a premier employee of a major league baseball team. Being a manager of a Major League Baseball team may be easier than any job any of us will ever have. What I love about Gibbons is that he knows this, but he'd never admit to it. But if you ever asked him about it, you can bet your ass his witty response would involve a wink.
Caper Verified Member Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 Gibby is a fine manager. Really good managing a pen.
Caper Verified Member Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 The Yankees have ran into some serious pitching.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 This team is winning in spite of Gibby
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 This team is winning in spite of Gibby I really wish this this was sarcasm, but I've seen your post history...
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 Yeah, doesn't matter much but Gibbons seems to be pretty dumb on the whole. This sounds more negative on him than past posts? He makes some poor decisions (ie use of Colla) but there are worse ayk.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 Gibby is a fine manager. Really good managing a pen. Meh. More neutral on him that that. He is ok. There are worse. His pen mgm is over rated imo. People started saying that in numbers the yr Delabar and Cecil went to the AS game. I think he has made some poor pen mgm decisions this season but at this point he now has more horses down there. Should be easier for him not to f*** it up.
CrackerJack Verified Member Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 This team is winning in spite of Gibby what happened to your "goodbye AA" signature? you, glory et al. were chomping at the bit to run him out of town up until a couple of weeks ago LOL
Caper Verified Member Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 Some of you have converted to anti-Gibbons and it is beautiful to see. The rest of you will join us in time. We deserve better than a manager that no other organization in baseball would ever hire. He is so in over his head, it's ridiculous. Farrell was better. At least his excuse was learning on the job and having a s***** roster with Jo Jo Reyes and Kyle Drabek in the rotation. Gibbons has been manager the only two times Rogers has spent any money on this team and they've underachieved or s*** the bed every time. Enough is enough. Sooo much gold in this thread especially from meatballs like glory and RA. This is just one of the gold posts.
Caper Verified Member Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 To the people who don't think Gibbons is a problem, what games have you been watching this season? He's been worse than usual, and his usual is trash. Alex is a bigger problem, but Gibbons has always been one. Another glory gem.
Caper Verified Member Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 Also, my boi AA can f*** off and suck my dick to, I'm done with my love affair. Are you sure you are done?
Caper Verified Member Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 We are getting closer to my "fire Gibby and go on a 2nd half run" prediction. Just a matter of how long the Fat Greek wants to wait. If he waits too long, he will have wasted a golden opportunity. Hahhahahahshahahahahahahahahahahahaha. f***. Soooo much funny!!
Caper Verified Member Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 there will be a 2nd half run with or without Gibbons. A large dose of wisdom littered in a sea of stupidity.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 I remember reading the cracker jack quote back then Amazing prediction
CrackerJack Verified Member Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 I remember reading the cracker jack quote back then Amazing prediction While I like Gibbons personally, I don't think he's a great manager. (I think he's fine tho.) But I don't think there are any GREAT managers in terms of really affecting the win/loss column significantly. Always thought that the Jays either are good enough to make the playoffs or they're not ... regardless of whether or not Gibbons (or insert any big name manager) is at the helm.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 Hahhahahahshahahahahahahahahahahahaha. f***. Soooo much funny!! One game below .500 before Tulo, Price, Hawkins, Revere, and Lowe. When he had a roster that was good enough to win but wasn't the super team it is now, they were mediocre like all previous Gibby teams. Gibbons is basically Cito now. He has the best roster in the AL and can win without getting off his seat. That doesn't mean any of the criticisms thrown at Gibbons were invalid. Although I am disappointed my 'DeMarlo takes over and they go on a run' prediction did not pan out. Now Sling Blade will manage here for another few years.

I mean, he basically makes 50% decisions every other manager in baseball would make, 20% worse decisions and 30% better and you still think he's somehow an anchor on this team. He's perfectly fine, and this team would have the same record +- 2 games with literally any other manger in baseball, or a trained monkey.
Caper Verified Member Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 Man. Everyone has to listen to tonights Jays talk. Pure gold. Some guy called up and went nuts at Wilners love of Gibbys pen use. Freaked out because Gibby used Loup. Thought Cito was a god that was the ultimate pen manager.... apparently he wasn't around for the Brian Tallet years.

I think you are being too harsh on him. lol I think he makes less that 20% bad decisions. The only time he had bad decisions was when we had a pen full of s***** pitchers. there wasn't a right decision to be made. once the team got rid of a few problems and brought in better relievers there wasn't a problem. the better the team, the less the manager matters and as you say, any monkey could manage the team we have now and not f*** it up. anyone can squeeze milk from a cow's tit, but you can't squeeze diamonds out a goats ass.

Now we don't have to see him until we lead by 7-15 runs in the ninth inning of a game.

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 Not to be a downer but Cito and Gibby both managed the same team exactly once. Gibby went 35-39 and Cito sent 51-37

Some of Wilners callers indicate such a frightening lack of baseball knowledge for a fan base. They go on endlessly about meaningless intangibles and bunting. Barker makes me appreciate Wilner more. Never thought I would say that!

So most managers would play a DH in left, play a back-up catcher at DH, risk his DH's health by playing him at first to get said back-up catcher in the lineup, not use his best relievers in the tightest spots, etc? His managing has improved since the trades because the roster is so dummy proof that even Gibbons won't be able to use Ryan Tepera in a high leverage spot, or put Colabello in LF, and so on because the roster/lineup/pen basically writes itself. When he actually had to think to get wins, he was clueless. I'm not saying to get Dusty Baker for "veteran leadership" or whatever you guys accuse anti-Gibby folk of wanting. Just get a guy that knows who his best players are when he doesn't have a f***ing all-star team out there and I'll be happy.

No what they are saying is Managers don't make much of a difference in the course of a season. The most a manager is going to effect is 2games +/-. Might has well have a manager players like playing for. And i am of the same believe that GM gives Manager players... Manager puts likely top 6 guys pretty much the same as every other manager and everything more or less plays out for the rest of the season. To say we would have way more wins if we had a different manager would be completely wrong in my opinion.
