Gibby chose Colabelo over Valencia. The reason is unknown. Doesn't matter too much anyways, it would amount to maybe a half-WAR difference.

It would have mattered more if Donaldson had missed time but he's been a rock

Okay, I'm really enjoying making these! I figure the stat nerds in here will appreciate this one. Also, could someone please tell me how to embed an image? I'm not liking these tiny things that only people who are logged in can see. Thanks!

The Blue Jays were averaging 34,010 fans per game prior to last night's game against Tampa - http://espn.go.com/mlb/attendance . They will finish in 8th in attendance and will fall just a 4-5 thousand short of 2.8 million after the final regular season game on Sunday.

Jays tv ratings have almost doubled since July, which Rogers cares about more. Much more.

If they sign price attendance will be over 40k a game and TV ratings average over 1 million viewers. The business case is very strong to sign him

250M strong?

Quite possibly. Ad revenues on Sportsnet are big right now, and a whole season of pre-booking ads with the hype train going could make that up in 1 off season...

I wouldn't be in too much despair, there are several players that can pinch hit at anytime. It should also be noted that Goins is hitting above average (wRC+ of 116) since July 3rd (189 plate appearances - http://www.fangraphs.com/statsd.aspx?playerid=9807&position=2B/SS&type=&gds=2015-07-03&gde=2015-09-23&season= ) when he changed his hitting style (both stance and plate discipline). Pillar had a good series against the Yankees when it was needed. I think Pillar will be a multi-year All Star in the future once he consistently shows the plate discipline that he did during the Yankee series. Pennington has had some clutch hits as a Blue Jay and I think Barney was 1 for 2 a couple of nights ago against the Yankees (Barney isn't crappy, he was a past Gold Glove winner).

Let's see how many runs are driven in by, and scored by the 6, 7, 8 and 9 hitters tonight. And also, how well Pillar, Barney, Pennington and Goins do on defense; a run saved is just as important as a run scored.

The bottom four went 6 hits for 13 ABs, plus a walk and 2 sacrifice bunts. They also had 3 runs scored and 2 RBI's - http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2015_09_25_tbamlb_tormlb_1#game=2015_09_25_tbamlb_tormlb_1,game_tab=box,game_state=Wrapup

The exception was Goins; he had 3 strikeouts. The last strikeout was a headshaker - 3 pitches in the strike zone in almost the exact same spot and he missed all 3 (what happened there Goins, were you swinging for the fences?).

All four players Goins, Pennington, Barney and Pillar played errorlessly; no outstanding defensive plays were required, however Pennington showed a strong arm at 3B.

We shouldn't be surprised. Goins is hitting much better but he will never be a good hitter. Doubt he will ever be league avg for middle IF offensively. He has been on a good run.

You are probably right; it seems like hitting ability can only be improved to a limited extent by hard work (in any case, I think Goins needs to focus more on hitting than defense if he wants to stay in the major leagues, since defense seems to be natural for him).

Even though a run saved is as important as a run scored, defense isn't valued as much as offense so I can see Ryan Goins' future as being similar to that of Darwin Barney's (who won the Gold Glove in 2012 but spent most of the year in AAA).

Hey, where do you think Saunders and Pompey fit into the 2016 Blue Jays? Do you think Goins stays as a super sub with Travis back? Any more trades on the horizon?

It will be interesting to see. Ben Revere is doing well defensively in RF and has a history of getting on base, Pillar has established himself as the CF and his All Star hitting potential is easy to see (once he becomes consistently patient at the plate), Bautista still seems to have a few years of production left in him. I see Pompey as starting 2016 in AAA Buffalo, and I don't really see a future for him in Toronto. Saunders is a big question mark.

I see Goins as a utility infielder next year with Travis at 2B. Pennington probably won't be back with the Blue Jays since he has a $3.3 million dollar contract for this year and would have to take a big cut to match Goins $500K minimum. Darwin Barney might be in the mix, perhaps splitting time between Buffalo and Toronto.

Hopefully Tulowitzki can stay healthy for a few years.

One thing that I think Gibbons and AA realized from this season is the importance of good defense. Hopefully it will be the end of good offense/poor defensive players in Toronto. I hope that Toronto won't have to endure watching players like Juan Francisco in Toronto any more (having him on the Blue Jays in 2014 showed how inept AA was last year).

Actually I don't know about that, I think a change of hand placement might go a long for more consistent contact.

If you expect Pillar to repeat the type of defense he played this year, you're probably be disappointed.

I actually expect him a have a better year next year. We will have to wait until next year to see, or just see how he does for the remainder of the year, and in the playoffs.

I expect a million dollars tomorrow

Even if he doesn't he seems like a pretty good bet for 2.5 WAR. I'll that that at league min. for a CF anyday.

I say 2.0 war is reasonable.

I think Saunders is really solid, but he's a FA after 2016. We have Revere for two more years. Can Saunders come back from his meniscus tear? I think so.

I think Saunders may be kept at the 4th OF and Pompey languishes in AAA. I don't see AA trading Pompey. He's good and Canadian. In 2017 he starts.

Does Goins have 2 years of control left? I can't seem to find anything. How many years does Travis have left, of control?
