Followthelight Verified Member Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 I hope he also realizes that we would not have had that 11 game win streak with him playing SS. We definitely would have lost 1 or 2 of those due to s*** defense. Not to mention the big hits Tulo had in the first week he came here. True dat.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Not a fan of Thole, but it only makes sense to have him catch Dickey with Martin hurting.
nextyear Verified Member Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Do you even use stats to back up your statements? He's the best base runner on the team. Please stop with the ******** Although your post wasn't directed at me, I decided to look it up. Surprisingly, the stolen base stats are similar in 2015 for Revere versus Pillar. However, I believe Pillar is faster/quicker and prefer him in cf. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/r/reverbe01.shtml in 2015 - 24 stolen bases (SB), caught stealing 5 times (CS) in 463 plate appearances (PA) http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/p/pillake01.shtml in 2015 - 15 SB, 3 CS in 479 PA however, Pillar probably doesn't attempt as many steals because of the big bats in the Blue Jays lineup.

We're not talking about stolen bases, we're talking about the whole base running component. Going first to third, first to home, second to home, not making outs and tagging up on fly balls. So far Pillar has been the best on this team

I don't want to spend the rest of my career on a last-place team. That's not the kind of player I feel like I am." ... "We'll see what happens here," Reyes told the Post. thatoneguy Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Trout hasn't made a single error this year? Pretty good.
nextyear Verified Member Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Trout hasn't made a single error this year? Pretty good. Pillar only has 2 - http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/p/pillake01.shtml . I think a 3rd baseman will have many more errors than a center fielder.

We've been getting exposed in this aspect all year.

Most people want to know how players compare offensively, defensively and otherwise, how is this possible when all the information is combined into one metric? As quoted from fangraphs: You should always use more than one metric at a time when evaluating players, but WAR is all-inclusive and provides a useful reference point for comparing players. - http://www.fangraphs.com/library/misc/war/. WAR might be a good starting point but there is every reason to go further and look at the other stats.
