GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2015 Posted June 14, 2015 A link stating that you should expect his power #'s to regress, so we're on the same page I guess. Oh, sure, Travis will regress. But his xISO is around .2 while his projected ISO is around .15, that's a big difference. That's mainly what I was talking about earlier. Devon Travis, .200 ISO is very different than Devon Travis, .150 ISO.

GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2015 Posted June 14, 2015 Well, nothing I can really say to that, honestly. I'm not sure how you arrived at "This data says his ISO will be .3 worse so I think it'll end up being .8 worse," but eh.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 So Kazmir,Clippard and Zobrist for Dickey Thole Travis and 2 players to be named later of either the pimp, norris, boyd or Castro pompey or Alford do we do it? Does beane?
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 On the other side of the coin I say we really should just stand pat and ride it out! I actually think we will be fine with what we got now and the future looks brighter that way too!

If they do make the playoffs they wont be able to score 6 runs per game against those pitchers. I don't think Kazmir would be the difference maker anyway, Need an actual ace if they are going for it.

Clippard and Zobrist would be very nice pieces but I agree we need someone a little sexier than Kazmir if we're going after a starter.

S33n Verified Member Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 The bullpen is falling into place nicely. We need starting pitching, end of story.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 Clippard and Zobrist would be very nice pieces but I agree we need someone a little sexier than Kazmir if we're going after a starter. You just pointed out exactly why Kazmir is the perfect target for this team; he's not "sexy". He's an under-the-radar guy pitching like a #2/#3 starter in his third straight season, and he'd be the best SP on this team right now. He isn't a big-name guy, he's only the 4th best starter on the A's, he's a free agent at the end of the year, and it probably isn't a guarantee that he'd get a qualifying offer from the Athletics. This could turn into an extreme sellers market and you'll probably have to shoot yourself in the foot to get someone like Cueto. Guys like Kazmir and Chavez are good B targets.

My guess is that he meant Travis is hitting the ball harder than his actual talent would suggest. Just wondering how many PA doe xISO need for it to stabilize?

DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 Oy. That's skewed by his 2011 arrival, where he kicked the crap out of the ball, and didn't play in the majors in the 1st half ... and his crappy 1st half of this year, which doesn't, as yet, have a second half. Compare 2012-2014 if you want a relevant sample of if, and how much, he improves from pre All Star Break to post All Star Break. Friggin kids. The whole sample is greater than the individual parts. It's proportionately skewed.
