DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 Wouldn't surprise me if the punting begins here, but hopefully they pick up another decent guy or two before they have to. Expecting a run of college seniors here.

DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 So, below slot signing here? They need to gain some cap for the round 10+ guys.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 Expecting a run of college seniors here. A little early isn't it. And for the Jays do they need it at this point? I suppose setting up the 11th round and beyond guys.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 Already started. Typed that before the pick! Liking what AA and co have done so far.

I think they'll need some money for the top 3 picks and then as you said they've always targeted overslot guys for round 11+ guys. If they want some money for that they'll need to start grabbing underslot guys earlier this year.

What would they punt for? We don't have any high-bonus guys drafted. The "punting" thing was only a strategy when we had 7 Top 100 picks and wanted to sell out to get the best 7-9 guys we could. I think you'll see some sleeper College picks that will sign for real money and maybe another couple lightly-hyped HS kids who will sign. I don't expect any crazy "punting" where we're drafting $5,000 guys.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 Jays have done well with Senior Signs so lets hope we can get some actual talent.

Maese is a pop-up guy who couldn't even dream of going 3rd round 6 months ago. he'll be an easy sign.

I suppose setting up the 11th round and beyond guys. I was actually thinking the same thing, I wonder if we see the Jays go deeper into the draft this time before they start punting picks on college seniors -- doesn't seem like they actually need all that extra cap space this time, but who knows?

Right now it'd still be slight underslot Seniors I think.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 Sanger seems like a decent pick as a senior guy
ace3113 Verified Member Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 Can't remember if it was Kiley or Chris Crawford who I read it from last night, but he said Vlad Jr. would go first round in this draft if he was available.

Maese is a pop-up guy who couldn't even dream of going 3rd round 6 months ago. he'll be an easy sign. They'll all get around slot but the Jays have zero wiggle room this year and they like to go after high upside guys in the later rounds that they will need $ for.
metafour Verified Member Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 For any 11-40 guys they might be looking at. Those guys are pipe-dreams. They aren't going to throw away 4+ rounds of decent picks so that you can have a ~50% chance of landing one kid later on for over-slot. Don't expect any crazy pick punting.

Nice pick by the Dodgers imo. Really liked this guy even coming out of high school. For some reason I thought he signed with the Rays that year.

They've done well there in the past and do you want to lose a higher pick over a small amount like $500k?

Like I said, I wouldn't be surprised if they have a more traditional draft this time, and I actually hope they do, but I just mentioned the punting because they've done it a lot in the past.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2015 Author Posted June 9, 2015 Ryan Kellogg is eligible right? Yes, #131 on BA 500 and #171 on MLB 200 this time around.
