I thought it might be an idea to start a thread that only contains links to Blue Jays articles in a thread. I spend a few minutes every day combing several websites in search of these sorts of articles so I thought it might be an idea have a centralized location for them. Just links, though. Can we save commentary for other threads?

Yea kid. Last I checked, that 4th starter was 0-4 with over a 6 ERA...OF prospect and where are they in the standings?? They already have another light hitting SS in the minors and OF prospects to boot.

The Jays have a manager who cannot or will not manage. Gibbons should have been fired last year, maybe even before that. There will be no material improvement in this team until he is shown the door, no matter who they have on the field.

 

If this collection of porcelain figurines could stay healthy, I believe this team is one solid bullpen arm away from being a postseason contender. The trouble is Gibbons. NO team will EVER win with him as manager. He is a proven loser through and through. And Bautista is a clubhouse cancer. The time to trade him is NOW. For that bullpen arm and an outfielder perhaps.

What did you expect was going to happen?? The last GM (Riccardi) was useless---he groomed Anthropoulos to be GM--Anthropoulos now has a worse W-L record than Riccardi did--Quelle Surprise??? Then Gibbons was first hired by Riccardi (they were best friends)--he did nothing his first stent as manager--did nothing as a minor league coach--and then Anthropoulos (as a favor to Riccardi) re-hires Gibbons--now into Gibbons third year as manager again--he's done NOTHING--Quelle Surprise???

Beat me to it. Whenever I'm actually interested in following the Jays, I usually have that site pinned in my browser. Don't read much Jays-related news during the season though, 99% of it is reactionary garbage.

Not Blue Jays related but here's a good article (as usual) from Birnbaum, this on the breakdown of how much of BABIP is luck versus pitcher:

Unless I've screwed up somewhere, I think we've got these as our best estimates for BAbip variation in talent:

8.5 = SD(individual pitcher BAbip talent)

2.5 = SD(team pitching staff BAbip talent)

7.7 = SD(team fielding staff BAbip talent)

2.5 = SD(park foul territory BAbip talent)

And, for a single team-season,

7.1 = SD(team season BAbip luck)

For a single team-season, it appears that luck, pitching, and park effects, combined, are about as big an influence on BAbip as fielding skill.

 

It's actually just proving an article from years ago in a different method but Birnbaum's explanations are fantastic in general. Very good writer.
